Lakan feels almost whimsical with the requests that he makes. I want to talk about him more, but for spoiler reasons, I can't. I do like that at the end of the episode, Maomao is confronting Lakan instead of hiding from him. I like the ingenuity of the solution to the issue. I also love the symbolism that Lakan doesn't actually see people's faces, but sees them, in the literal sense, as pieces in a game. It's very fitting, considering he's the strategist and all, to see them as pieces in a strategic board game. It also speaks to the importance that Maomao has to him that he doesn't see her as a piece, but as herself. He also recognized the color of the nails the women had, even if he couldn't recognize their faces. So the nail color must have great significance to him as well. Also, ONLY LAKAN would use a military officer's headpiece as a napkin. He's both intimidating, but also so silly and unserious at times. I think that adds to how unpredictable and unreadable he is to Jinshi; which, in turn, keeps him on edge and on guard around him. As you may have guessed, I am a bit fond of the character that is Lakan. Even if I didn't like him, his nature and personality is fascinating and intriguing because he's got just enough mystique around him that you want to learn a little more about him and figure out what his deal is.

2025-10-10 02:06:28 +0000 UTCI really like the cut to Lakan's point of view, giving us the very sudden reveal of his face blindness. Of course, he has a very Lakan way of dealing with it. It does make me wish we could see his POV during the chicken/hat scene.
