Meimei likes(loves) Lakan and that's why maomao talked about love after that in her inner monologue. She wants to stay there because she wants to keep seeing Lakan or hoping that Lakan would buy her out someday.

2025-09-28 00:58:04 +0000 UTCSo, it's confirmed that Lakan is her biological father and that the woman in the annex that she visits is her mother. There's this brief moment in the anime where Jinshi says Lakan wants to meet Maomao and her face is flashed on the screen for a couple seconds. That was a whole panel that was very striking in the manga. But yes, we have both Lakan and Suirei intersecting with Maomao's current path in life. It's funny that Maomao isn't going out of her way to see or interact with these two new characters, but they seem to there at times for seemingly random reasons. You could argue that Lakan is much more calculated and intentional with why he's showing up where does, but not the same can be said for Suirei. They do seem to have some commonality and familiarity with the herbal side. And yes, Lakan does know what position Jinshi truly holds in the palace and such. If I had to guess, excluding Maomao, only Jinshi's personal attendants, the Emperor, Lakan, and high ranking persons that personally know/knew him know his true identity. I don't believe any of the 4 main consorts in the palace know. Or if they do, they haven't implied that they are aware of his true positioning.

2025-09-27 14:57:11 +0000 UTCLakan either seems like a massive exception, or maybe something I can't yet figure out, but his name 羅漢 essentially means "enlightenment" or "epiphany" in Buddhism. No idea what that's about, or perhaps it's an allusion to some historical figure I'm not aware of.
