In Apothecary Diaries 1x10, Honey, despite a warm reception, the honey is not as sweet as it seems? Some people are afraid of honey, and some people just don't like honey when it's aged? And some people don't like to eat honey off people's fingers, but it would be okay if it was syrup? Honey is a sweet poison used to trap flies? Honey is a sweet scent disguising ugly lies? I don't know, but I get the feeling the honey is important somehow.

2025-08-21 20:46:56 +0000 UTCWe're finally in the double digit episodes! It feels like we've gone through a whole anime season just to get here! I like how this episode is pretty straightforward compared to some previous episodes we've had. We also got a bit of emperor clarification. He and Consort Ah Duo are one year apart and he doesn't seem to be interested in Lishu like his father, the previous emperor, was. But then you have to wonder, why is she still a major concubine if the current emperor has no interest in either making her his wife or having her bear his children? We also get a small instance of Gaoshun's personal thoughts about Xiaomao and it appears that he had much respect towards her but that felt apparent without it being said. I also like that Jinshi has sent Maomao to work with at the Garnet Palace for a while, but he didn't really give any instruction as to what she should be doing while there. It could be a kind of test, in a way. But it also appears that he didn't want to give her any prior knowledge to influence or impact her observations or judgements from what she saw. And as we learned from the last episode, we as the audience already know that Fengming is a person of interest, but Maomao doesn't know anything about that so she's kinda being brought into the loop without being directly told. One last thing, they really seemed to drive home the point to focus on honey this episode. Fair, considering it's the name of the episode and all, but how do you think it correlates to the current situation? I said one last thing, but I forgot to bring it up that now we got the reveal that Maomao's dad, Luomen, worked in the Rear Palace in the past. We're getting pieces of something, but it's not clear what it is yet. I'm looking forward to next week's episodes.

2025-08-21 07:16:30 +0000 UTCAhDuo and the current Emperor were "milk siblings", meaning Ah Duo's mother was the Emperor's wet nurse (high-ranked ladies often didn't breastfeed). AhDuo's mother must have been close with the Empress, but of a lower rank, for her to be chosen as wet nurse and her baby girl allowed to be raised together with the Emperor. I doubt AhDuo invented rhododendron soup, but her head lady-in-waiting seems familiar with it, as well as firework messages. "Former eunuch" - In this case, "former" refers to his past status as a doctor in the rear palace, not that he was only temporarily a eunuch. Which means he is not Maomao's biological father, and she is aware of that. Jinshi is having too much fun harassing Maomao. She is definitely "not like the other girls" who all swoon and fawn over him brainlessly. She isn't fooled by his pretty face and is not afraid to talk to him the same as she talks to anyone else (though with a little more politeness). It's clear no one has ever treated him this way before. He's getting addicted to watching her cringe at him, lol, enjoys being scolded by her, and probably wants to see how far he can push her before she snaps.

2025-08-21 02:25:53 +0000 UTCThis series reminded me a lot of a more mellow Death Note as I read the manga and then watched it. Lots of things happening underneath the surface. And I'm pretty sure a former eunuch only means he was relieved/retired from his government position (which you need to be a eunuch for to serve in the palace.) They certainly didn't give him back his lower equipment at any rate 😅
