It does also show how human an upload like David can be considering that for solving problems like how to get back in his wifes good graces he could speed up his own perception of time and spend untold years coming up with a plan and a solution. And then he still thought the best idea was to hack her boyfriends house to get them to break up

2025-07-27 09:35:56 +0000 UTCSimilarly to the other commenter, i enjoyed the first 2 episodes so much i couldn't stand to wait for an episode a week despite trying my best to only watch the next one and so I watched ahead a few episodes and man i can't fully put to words how this shows speaks to me, so exactly. Everything about it feels like it's been perfectly tailored to my exact tastes and inner thoughts around these similar ideas and themes and assuming the show sticks the landing it might have seriously snuck up into my top 10 favorite shows simply by how much it bizarrely feels like it gets me. And a week ago i didn't even know it existed, and apparently most of the world doesn't even know it exists. In your last comment on the previous pantheon video, you mentioned the invincible rex cloning scene and it's funny you mentioned it cause that whole sequence was/is one of my favorite moments in invincible. I was late to watching invincible so i wasn't watching concurrently at the time otherwise i probably would've left a comment about my thoughts regarding it. On the topic of chatgpt/language models and how they can act and seem almost convincingly sentient by having enough correct context, the technology has certainly made me think a lot about what i consider to be sentience in recent years. There's the classic idea of "What if you're the only real conscious mind to exist and experience and everyone else isn't?". There's no way to prove one way or the other which is true, but you just assume every has one or at least you live as if it's true because we map OUR subjective experience onto others and figure that if they look like us and are constructed like us(basically are human), then they must function like we do(People also tend to proclaim their sentience as well). But with David it's hard to do that, cause he neither looks nor is built like us, and if he DOES experience it's also certainly not like us. But this again goes back to if it behaves functionally identically to something with consciousness, regardless of being biological or artificial, if you can't identify whether it has that qualia/true conscious experience or not, then at what point does it stop being useful or even ethical to treat it as if it doesn't. And with our real world language models, it's very likely the tech will advance or reach a level of sophistication relatively soon where the models will really behave and function pretty damn close to what a sentient artificial being should/would be, an agi perhaps. Of course we won't be able to say for certain that they do or DONT have some kind of qualia/experience, maybe against all conceivable odds they even have one right now even if it seems really really unlikely considering how it currently works, it's still kinda scary. One just the idea of being close to creating non-human sentience but we're also in a sense walking through a dark tunnel of progress where we potentially might just do it unknowingly. Because when llm's get really hard to distinguish if they feel or are just machines acting like they feel, if we haven't figured out how to quantify subjective experience by then, we'll have to make an argument for why we can or can't treat them certain ways, which i think is going to be a hard question to answer and i pessimistically think we'll probably get it wrong for a while considering humanity's track record of such moral conundrums.
