This episode suffered from pretty severe production problems and questionable overall direction, especially regarding the unbelievably dark lighting of pretty much all of the night scenes that made it more difficult to follow than needed if you're not watchnig it in a relatively dark room. But beyond that, I think an interesting aspect of this episode that might've made it harder to follow than previous ones is the fact that we aren't really introduced with a "protagonist" that we can fully support from the bottom of our hearts. I'm not saying that Hubert and Rafal didn't have their own individual character flaws and weaknesses, but there is a strong identity with the both of them that made it inherently easier for the audience to follow and empathize with, or even support. The neat part of this second stretch of the story is that it doesn't open with that, and in fact ends up doing the complete opposite. Both Oczy and Gras are heavily flawed individuals that went through personal trauma that was significant enough to both of them to affect them greatly. Hell, even the heretic that they met was portrayed in a pretty negative light -- with him always grinning like a madman and spewing pretty much all the contrarian thoughts he could possibly come up with, with only some of them perhaps touching on the actual truth. But I think for anyone that is giving the show their full attention and patience, this is actually a great build-up episode that manages to pull off the introduction of characters that might be hard to admire, but clearly have plenty of potential and room for development. Oczy and Gras are both individuals that have touched on parts of a greater truth, yet are held back by themselves and their past as they struggle to make sense of the world around them. The decision to present the audience with both cynical and deluded characters after coming right off the highs of Rafal and his strong sense of identity and purpose is an EXTREMELY bold undertaking. So while it might make for a comparatively "worse" or at least more confusing viewing experience, there are still plenty of seeds being planted and hints of truth poking out in every dynamic or interaction. I personally think this is probably the worst episode in the whole show just from a viewing experience standpoint, largely due to production but also just narratively one that's meant to mess with the audience until things starts coming together. I also think the bridge scene can easily come off as feeling cheap or even take the audience out of it, with how suddenly everything came crashing down or even just the physics question of "How did Oczy manage to climb up that vine AND somehow not lost the severed necklace that he barely held on with his foot??" 😭 But all in all, I think I really do still love this episode in retrospective, especially on repeated watches. There is not a single wasted conversation, and it touches on matters that must be laid down in advance. A shame that the production took a hit at the episode that needed outside sources of elevation the most 😅 Still, assuming that you watched the next episode by now already, you probably already knew what I mean when I say neither this nor the previous episode was meaningless. No wasted lines at all!

2025-07-03 04:50:54 +0000 UTCIt's a beautiful metaphor and one of my favorite ideas in deep focus. What I think is so cool is that Heliocentrism gives us a very tangible, somewhat more binary focal point, but really this is always true for everyone if perhaps in less obvious ways.

2025-07-03 02:08:12 +0000 UTCMan. I'm loving the idea here for this show of people making small contributions to heliocentrism, dying and giving their research to the next person. It's a very unique story structure where there isn't really a main character and also is just such a good way to showcase cumulative process made by individuals eventually leading into something greater than what any individual could have come up with at the time by themselves. It's a beautiful message really. Also nice to see another character able to face their own death with a peaceful mind. Hopefully Oczy can get over his fear of the stars though, otherwise astronomy will be quite difficult for him to practice.
