Wherefore, O judges, be of good cheer about death, and know this of a truth. That no evil can happen to a good man, either in life or after death.

To quote my own comment on the first episode, when I had only seen the first 2 episodes, “I assume that Rafal will end up going on a journey to prove heliocentrism”. Turns out I severely underestimated the titanium balls this show would have, as this episode is probably the most I’ve ever been caught off guard by an anime. Like, I genuinely didn’t see this coming at all. I had mentally prepared myself for Rafal’s college life, trying to juggle that and his life threatening mission to prove heliocentrism. Despite having only seen one episode past this, I feel confident in saying I love this show even more than I already did for this decision, and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

2025-06-27 18:57:23 +0000 UTCAs someone with a lot of anxiety about my own mortality I wish I could think about it as simply and logically as Rafal here. Of course that's the surface level of what we can see as viewers but I'd like to believe he's not just playing up how calm he is about his death and he really does die truly at peace with whatever outcome awaits him. That seems like such a simple but effective way to think about death. Like the argument often said by more secular people or atheists that being dead is what it was like before you were born. A comforting way to discuss such a heavy thing that the anxiety and fear of has had probably the most monumental effect in human history. Striving for legacy or immortality or whatever it is. He will definitely atleast have a legacy in the spreading of heliocentrism I would hope. It seems to me like the kingdom of P is supposed to be Poland and I would assume this show has to take place before the lifetime of Kopernicus who is the one most well known for popularizing heliocentrism so I'm excited how Rafal and Hubert can be tied into in that history in the legacy of their research. As long as that inquisitor guy doesn't rip off all their fingernails first.
