2025-06-26 11:35:17 +0000 UTCThat's awesome :D Maybe one way to think about religion and science is as disciplines. Dumb analogy and not my expertise but let's say you want to be good at fighting. You decide to study Muay Thai. If you trust in Muay Thai and study it really well with a good teacher and with a clear goal, you'll probably become great at fighting. You'll probably also recognize that there are principles of fighting that underly ALL fighting (not only Muay Thai), and you just happened to access and master those things through faithful observance to the art of Muay Thai. Someone else studies kickboxing dedicatedly, and something similar happens. While they recognize that there are things BIGGER than their individual art styles, they also perhaps think they wouldn't have come across those bigger principles if they had spent all of their time debating which was the best style, as opposed to just training, fighting, and opening themselves up to their instruction. The Muay Thai fighter and the kickboxer can meet, compare notes, appreciate their differences, learn from each other, and have common ground as fighters. Meanwhile other people who have never really trained or studied, except for maybe dabbling, will argue with each other about which one is the best, and who is right.

2025-06-24 18:17:59 +0000 UTCWith that tolkien example you mentioned of throwing the ring into Mordor it's not like any of the characters actually managed to do it. From what I understand even from the words of Tolkien himself managing such a feat of resisting temptation is just blatantly impossible. The only reason the ring got destroyed is because Gollum and Frodo were both tempted hard enough to fight each other to the death over an active volcano to get it and only then it ends up falling in Mount Doon

2025-06-23 04:14:32 +0000 UTCReally appreciate your talk on the concept of “God” in relation to the universal truths that laid the foundations of our world and how it can be discussed even outside of religion — while also not disparaging the faith itself. It’s like you said, we have layers of knowledge that is locked behind the dogma and stigma of being labeled as mere “subjects”, which actively prevents us from taking in the things that may very well be instrumental to helping us get ever closer to the truths of this world. And it’s also like you said, I do wish that we can somehow convey conceptual frameworks to each other in an easier manner. Which, regarding that, I must admit that your conceptual framework and approach towards a lot of topics on living life has helped me immensely in discovering my own faith and worldview. For a while now, my faith has been in Christianity, and it still is. But both the Scriptures and my faith’s meaning to me has gone through drastic changes throughout the years, each according to the little by little understanding I’ve gained by life’s experiences. Still, the road that led me to where I am now has and still is deeply rooted in the attempt to centering my life around the pursuit of truth — something that I’ve learned to gradually accept as humanity’s most profound purpose. And much of my current conceptual framework is deeply influenced or even inspired by the approaches and perspectives that you demonstrated for me as a senior in both age and stages of life! And such, your Orb reactions really are “pure bliss” for what I imagine is not just me, but for many of your subscribers as well :D Thanks again, can’t wait for next week’s!
