I did not know what this show was, and when it was winning in polls against shows I actually wanted I was getting a little salty and thinking "why is this show I've never heard of winning, that's lame". Turns out this show seems pretty damn great and I should have withheld my judgment, as per usual. I need more of these types of shows - more down-to-earth, relatable, philisophical shows as opposed to typical shounen shows - might get me back watching anime again lol.

It's nice when media can highlight specific fields in detail like this while still being approachable. Reminds me of the reading I've done on astronomical history in my academic path so far. Though it's a path that can also easily lead to despair and existential woe on the meaningfullness and practicality of the work itself. The true shape and nature of the universe isn't really something you can market and turn into a tool. I'd say astronomy is a bit more philosophical and abstract in that way compared to many other stem fields like engineering or even other fields of physics. Great to see you reacting to this show. I will try to keep commenting on any interesting astronomical or historical tidbits if the opportunities and ideas arise.

2025-06-22 07:20:29 +0000 UTCAlso just started watching this, and I love how Rafal mentions seeing a sixth magnitude star. To explain this, I’m actually gonna talk about MHA for a moment. I first learned what a sixth magnitude star was through MHA, as it’s the name of the latest ending theme in season 7. Basically, it’s the faintest star visible to the naked eye at night. More importantly, they play an instrumental version of the song during the Uraraka/Toga episodes, which, when knowing what a sixth magnitude star is, adds a lot to when Uraraka spots the real Toga in the crowd of Toga/Twices. Now thinking about it in the context of Orb, I assume that Rafal will end up going on a journey to prove heliocentrism, which in the times he’s living in could probably be compared to trying to spot the dimmest star in the sky with the naked eye.

Example: "According to this model things will keep falling forever (because it's been falling and all known inputs in consideration in this model contribute to further fall)." Incorporative and whole-view knowledge that is grounded in the personally known and observable allows for the occasional 3D insight. It sounds almost ridiculous to explain with the benefit of hindsight but at that time so many people were talking about how oil was over forever.

WHO WROTE THIS?? Because it feels almost surreal, like I'm being pranked. I'm so excited to continue watching. The challenge for me is going to be keeping up with the magnitude of the ideas in a concise way so I'm not just all over the place for 10 hours per episode

It really is great to have you back and also to hear about how you’ve actively been looking in a forward direction on what the future has in store, despite the recent setbacks. Episode 1 sure didn’t disappoint! And boy is it exciting to see you pause to talk on just about everything in this introductory episode. I’ve mentioned before and I’ll bring it up again: I really think this will be one of, if not THE most relevant show for you on a personal level that you’ll be watching. I think you’ll be excited to know that the show not only touches, but fully dives into quite literally everything that you’ve talked about so far — and with a lot more to come! I watched Orb around three months back, realizing afterwards that I experienced the phenomenon where I came across a show that just happened to be perfect for the stage I am in life and the level of understanding I’ve just begun to grasp, step by step. It was a show that I know for sure I wouldn’t have been able to appreciate had I watched it literally a year too early. So, in your case, and based on what I know about your perspectives and insights on life in general — I can say with confidence that this will resonate with you on THE MOST personal level! I remember watching your AOT, Vinland, and HxH reactions, thinking how it felt amazing to see someone else resonate with them because of the truths observed and understanding gained from personal experiences. And I would definitely consider Orb to be another show that’ll definitely be added to that list, and probably offering even more of ‘that’ — precisely because of the abundance of universal truths present within its rich storytelling! Looking forward to the next 12 weeks! Re:Zero might be gone (for now) but it looks like the summer is here to stay :D
