When you were talking about a way of defeating a Lust and being as a rock I was thinking about Tohru Honda...maybe she could beat Capella in philosophical way ? we KNOW Meili. Meili was magical beast user (rock Piggie!) who acompanied Elsa and send mabeast after Subaru and Rem.

2025-06-10 14:38:51 +0000 UTCEspecially in a story where it seems there is a lot of possibility for one character to be another character but in a roundabout way, like Emilia-Envy-Satella. And yeah come to think of it the taunting he gives to Lust could have been straight out of Subaru's mouth. Now I'm thinking about his warning to Subaru before his speech. Don't take on too much, just focus on protecting the person you care about. Maybe his own past failure there in a similar vein

2025-05-18 03:56:54 +0000 UTCSo my theory can basically come to light now. I belive Al is either a past/alternate reality Subaru. My evidence is this. 1. This story is already deeply ingrained in forms of time travel and/or alternate worlds/paths. Wheather it's abilities like Return by death or how we've had a ton of hints about alternate routes for subaru like a light novel game. We've also have doubts what 100% happens with time/realty shifting powers like Retun by death if it's true time travel or string theory or multiverse ect. 2. Al may not even necessarily be "Subaru" technically. What i mean is what if there is a loop or test going like the Witch of Envy is trying to find "that person" to save her or do something in particular. Or maybe even other witches or beings of power could pull people into this world too for purposes even. Al could be a alternate reality Subaru that went another path or could be a proto Subaru who was someone else entirely. But a hint of him being some alternate Subaru is 1. he hides his face and the one time we got a close up of it this season he has the same eye color (it's really hard to see but it was around the speech episode). 2. what kind of name is Al from someone from our IRL Japan. Sounds like a fake name to me unless we belive that past Subaru arnt necessarily 1 to 1. 3. Al has some kind of Witch factor ability like our Subaru. He mentions dying multiple times and even specific things like how the first time hurt, you'll be sorry if he dies, I've must've died multiple times in X situation, ect. Wheather his factor and our Subarus are 1 to 1 is yet to be seen but he power could be a beta form or a twist on Subarus that got changed in the next "run" for our Subaru. 4.His personality is very similar. Like Subaru his vocabulary and speaking manner are nearly 80% the same he acts goofy 80% of thr time but gets dead serious too. He calls Felix a femboy, poses goofily even in combat like bowing or acting embarrassed, talks in terms of video games like "saving the princess" ect like to Emilia. He has obviously survived much longer in this world than Subaru and has changed from it being suspicious quick and losing a arm ect. But the base personality is nearly a 70/30 situation. 5. He knows way too much. He knows about events from 100s of years ago and even acted like he was there before like when talking where the witches remains were, being in places right when major events happen constantly wondering off, hiding info from his princess, happening to be in places when stuff like the city flooding and council members dying also makes it seem like he may have deep fore knowledge too of some kind. I dony think Lust would lie about that since 1 they don't want the city gone 2 killing council members hides where the witch remains are from them which hurts them. 6. He mentions here he cannot love or he has no love. But not in respects to Lust but in general he says this. He says it seriously too which is my final jab. He could've been a proto Subaru that failed. He never says he loves his princess iirc infact he acts more like Season 1 Subaru to her being very subservient and goofy. But never loving. My guess is he failed either his "Emilia" who either becomes the witch of envy or he failed whoever originally pulled him so he doesn't love anymore because of this failure maybe. His current job as a princess knight is perhaps just a bigger overall plan that gets him to these events or something to keep him mentally stable after failing his original love. Note how he advises Subaru on protecting Emilia multiple times too.

2025-05-18 02:54:07 +0000 UTCI'm thinking a lot about it too. It's weird how it can be so unpleasant but also enticing, snd so easy to slip into naturally. And then there are brief moments where the curtain is lifted for a second and it's like, wait a minute... I'm actually ENJOYING this. But wait, no, that can't be right. I can't be enjoying it because this feels terrible. And yet there is something like satiation happening there. Hard to explain and tough to know how to deal with it. I would love to figure out some actionable way to address it. As always, thanks for the language note. I was wondering what eclipse had to do with it haha

2025-05-18 02:45:30 +0000 UTCAlso you can probably see now why in terms of pure combat skill, Gluttony reigns on top among the archbishops. Due to their ability, the upward ceiling for potential is nigh infinite.

2025-05-18 02:43:59 +0000 UTCAlright. I just wanna make a separate comment for the current info we have on S4. So S3 was actually originally supposed to have an additional 22 whole episodes. This was before some production issues hit White Fox, the animation studio. It had nothing to do with the Re: Zero team, but obv when the studio itself is having troubles, they need all the help they can get. So they delayed the 22 episodes and have rebranded it as S4, as to not have an AOT S4 situation. Theres an event with all the VAs on the 26th of this month, and another next month, so it’s very likely we get the release date at one of those. We probably won’t have to wait very long at all tho, at least not as long as you usually have to with anime seasons. Since they were already gonna be making these additional 22 eps in S3. And we already have a teaser trailer and key visuals for the season, which released immediately after S3 ended. This is pretty unusual, but just means they’re farther along in production than most series are immediately after a season ends. So that’s about it. While sadly the journey is coming to an end, we probably won’t have to wait long at all for it to continue!

2025-05-18 02:41:17 +0000 UTCI was thinking that actually it would be a lot easier than it initially seems to gather all those names through memory absorption. Just one person contains information on what, 1000 people? In a world as small as Re: Zero it wouldn't take long to get to some critical point of name familiarity

2025-05-18 02:35:35 +0000 UTCThanks 😊 I was recently listening to someone talking about how there's only one story in existence, and that's a person seeking something in the external world and then ultimately returning to self. I personally think there are more stories than that or maybe just a deeper rung that incorporates that aspect, even though he made an interesting case for it. But I think there is some truth to the idea that there is gonna be tremendous overlap since for it to hit something that is resonant it's going to have to hit some fundamental aspect of human experience, and if it's going to be great it has to aim for a really high rung of what that is :) I'm just spitballing here but I'd guess that there is a lot more variance and specific scenarios to the "problem" element of the equation, and a much more universal one for the "solution" element. What's been interesting recently and again could be just that I'm seeing it more because I'm thinking about it but on the problem side I'm suddenly seeing the whole severance thing everywhere, where meaning of the "why" has been divorced from the equation, so there's a hyper fixation on some more material, immediately attainable aspect. A new body, turning of the mind from challenge, consumption as the ultimate purpose... Etc

2025-05-18 02:33:21 +0000 UTCPeak:Zero day! I love this episode. Memory horror has been a mainstay of the series from S1, and Gluttony is the epitome of that horror. I loved all your thoughts on Gluttony, both Lye and Roy. I think you were spot on with their perspective on emotions and how they’ve gotten to the place they’re at. Genuinely loved the deep dive. You said pretty much everything I would want to for now, with what they’ve revealed about themselves. Especially with the sadness and grief angle you mentioned. For a little bit of cut content, we do get Otto noticing his scars on his back, and this def gets the point across, but it’s even darker in the novels. When the bombs go off, Lye starts mentioning how “adults like when my clothes are like this, right?” So the implications are pretty horrific in terms of what he’s gone through. Oh Julius. I love how they animated him losing his cool. The angles and way he bites his lip till it bleeds is framed exactly how Subaru tends to do that. The absolute horror of not remembering something, but still knowing something is missing, is one of the scariest things I can imagine. With identity being such a core part of Re: Zero, whether it be your physical body, your name, or your memories, Gluttony is almost the ultimate antagonist. Also something to note, we met Julius’ brother in ep 1 of this season. His name was Joshua. Anastasia sent him to one of the gates to deliver a message, but we haven’t seen him since, and he hasn’t even been mentioned. Guess now we know why. I love the implications of the scene where Roy “becomes” Joshua. When we first see him this season, he seems to be super proud and gloats about having Julius as a brother. But I guess the truth in his heart is much different than his outward projections. Those feelings of weakness, of helplessness, especially in the face of such a talented younger brother, now in a body that has immense power, fighting that same brother. You’ll note, since ep 1 of this season, Priscilla has been calling Anastasia a “vixen.” That’s very specific terminology. And it seems Al is now also noticing that something is off with her. Though I don’t know if Al is one to talk, with all his vague death related jokes. Veryyy suspicious Al. I loved everything you had to say about Capella and Al’s interactions. I think you pretty much covered everything I would wanna say about that too. The commentary was just on point today. I do have some theories on how you defeat Capella, and it actually has to do with some of the myths and legends surrounding the Star. I think you have to destroy the object of her trauma. This is a bit of a reach, but when Emilia is in her “future trial” she’s standing in the throne room in lugunica, but it’s destroyed. If Capella Emerada Lugunica is related to the royal family in any way, would her source of clear sexual/physical trauma be related to the royal kingdom itself? Was she abused within the royalty? I could definitely see that. Again, this is just a theory, I have no real backing for it besides guesswork, but that’s what I’m banking on rn. Also loved that you noticed the mention of Meili. Most ppl don’t notice that. And finally, Betty returns! I missed her. Loved the title card they did this ep, especially as a novel reader. Lots of cool foreshadowing. Really awesome thoughts today, the commentary was amazing. Super excited for next episode!

2025-05-18 02:25:31 +0000 UTCLots to think about. I'm really struggling with frustration and anger lately, and I'm worried that it's become a sort of addicting cycle, rather than being anything productive or even responsive (the self-reinforcing cycle you talked about). So, I think it'll genuinely help to think about it this way over the weekend and see if I can get out of it. In the meantime, just one quick language note: Gluttony's "Eclipse" is an interesting word. It's actually just the "lunar eclipse" version that he says now, but the word for a lunar eclipse in Japanese means "moon-eating" (月食、gesshoku, because of the way a partially eclipsed object looks like someone took a bite out of it), hence the connection to gluttony. A solar eclipse would be sun-eating or 日食, nisshoku, and in principle, there could be other things he would 'eclipse' or 'eat,' but for now, I just wanted to say that eclipse is definitely more connected to eating than it is in English.
