you have to remember its a novel so there's a ton of words and dialogue to adapt. It seems like way longer in anime format there's not much you can do about it

2025-05-16 05:50:56 +0000 UTCI love that they just put all the animation budget into this random ahh fight, it's so weirdly creative compared to the rest of the show as this really isn't a battle heavy series (like many light novel adaptations)

2025-05-10 12:49:43 +0000 UTCAlex has just brief moments of frustration with the huge pauses for dialog, but that's my one big pet peeve with the series. Like, Felt says she's on her way to get something, then spends minutes standing there monologuing and I'm just thinking "FFS GO! The *%$#& are you still here for?" And then Garfiel's half-brother saying Gorgeous Tiger over and over again but not getting to the "ganbare" part until everyone else joins in.... I swear sometimes Re:Zero makes me feel like a real asshole for not having the patience to deal with it at all. (Subaru also very frequently takes whole chunks of time to stop and comment on something irrelevant or make a corny joke when he's "in a hurry and every second counts", but in his case it's an intentional character flaw)

2025-05-10 05:55:27 +0000 UTCAt first I thought he meant not the real Elsa. But thinking about it later it could also be his mom, Mimi, or someone else entirely

2025-05-10 03:25:14 +0000 UTCThat fills in a lot about Regulus. The hating being pitied or looked down on makes so much sense as someone who is trying artificially to live as the chosen one, special big man. Also great that his arrogance is what brings him down in so many ways

2025-05-10 03:24:15 +0000 UTCI agree with everything you said here. Garfiel is one of the charachters i find the most interesting because his whole thing is about fear, he's afraid to let people out of the sancturary, hes afraid of Elsa and then feared that he wouldnt be strong enough to protect anyone. I love how you brought up that Garfiel using his transformation isnt the solution because he does lose control of his emotions when he goes into beast mode and it shows a wonderful message about how much stronger you can be when you act calm and believe in your own strenght instead of letting your emotions get the better of you.

2025-05-10 01:40:24 +0000 UTCGorgeous Tiger! This is another one of my favs in the whole show. The fight between Garf and Kurgan was always my favorite of this arc from purely a fight/choreography standpoint in the novel, and to see them go so hard with it in the anime was incredible to see. All the Lye stuff is really well directed, Otto’s got it rough dealing with that monster. I love all the Capella and Aldebaran stuff. We get a little more insight into Al, and what his intentions might be/what he’s been up to off screen this season. I love the dynamic the two of them have, it’s so fun to watch. I think she has a thing for Al. And as always the animation on Capella is incredible, and the direction of their scenes is awesome. I love how when Capella reforms from just her head, it echoes one of the scenes from The Thing almost shot for shot. More Capella horror homages. And we finally get to see Garf VS Kurgan to its fullest. And what a spectacle it was. I love this fight so much. The animation and choreography is just so visceral and explosive. Garfiel, as Subaru said in S2, continues to change without ever changing. He’s facing off with a legend, a god of war. The kind of man he’s been spouting off sayings about for his whole life. At first, he transforms into his more beastial form. You’d think this would amp his power, but instead, it just makes it easier for Kurgan to pummel him. This wild, untamed, violent side of him cannot win this fight. So what does strength mean for Garfiel Tinsel? Despite all his bluster about battle, and the act of defeating your enemies, he can’t bring himself to kill the Mabeasts who used to be humans. And he still holds immense guilt and doubt over killing Elsa. He doesn’t actually like the act of killing or fighting deep down imo. So why fight? His battle against Elsa didn’t have any grand meaning to him personally, she was merely an obstacle that he was chosen to overcome, and vengeance for Mimi doesn’t seem to drive him either. So what is he fighting for? This is where Kurgan becomes so important as an opponent for Garf. We learn that he was a demihuman who took up his swords to defend his people from oppression, even if he was feared by those very same people he wished to protect. Garfiel also had a role similar to this, with the sanctuary. He took it upon himself to defend the demihumans of the sanctuary from the outside world. Of course, we know now that his reasons for doing that were really his own fear, loss of control, and deep sadness. But that urge to protect was still real. Even if it was misguided. So now, he’s backed into a corner. He has to fight. But it’s not just for himself. Because now, he has someone behind him. Something precious he has to protect. His siblings. His family. Kurgans recognition of Garf comes not from him powering up into a stronger version of himself like his bestial form, and not from the simple act of killing. Kurgan recognizes that Garf has something to protect. Something bigger than himself. It’s no longer a fight to the death like with Elsa, but a fight for life. We’ve been talking about how other characters contribute to a “higher ideal” in different ways, whether it be Liliana, Priscilla, Subaru, etc. But now Garfiel has a new direction. His strength is for himself and for the people behind him. And so dies the title of “The Ultimate Shield” and is replaced with “Gorgeous Tiger, Garfiel Tinsel.” A far cry from ep 1 of this season, where he tells the kids his names not important enough to give. He reclaimed his identity as a protector, but now not out of fear. But out of love for his family and clan. (This is also really powerful, as even tho his mother doesn’t remember him, he’s still taking on the responsibility of these kids being his family, even though no one could blame him for feeling otherwise) And this is only a slight shift in mindset. But it’s an important one imo. He changed without ever changing. This last appearance of Elsa’s apparition is a clearing away of his self doubts, at least for now. I also think Subaru and Otto have been a really important influences on Garfiel as well. He’s got actual role models/older brothers to look up to, not just heroes in stories. So having the connection to Subarus speech in this episode was great as well. I also think it’s notable that Garfiel only gets the upper hand in the fight when he stops relying on his transformations, and starts leaning on his earth magic more. Maybe a spiritual metaphor? I might be reaching with that one. And the final line. It’s such a raw and badass moment from Kurgan, with only a singular phrase to give to Garfiel. A final acknowledgement, something that means the world to Garf, especially coming from him. Crunchyroll translated it into “Well Done”, but in the original text, he simply says “Magnificent.” A not-so fun fact, Kurgan was actually originally killed by Regulus decades ago. Kurgan was going to face him down honorably, but Regulus had no interest and used his busted ability to kill him when he was off-guard. Sad to see a legend brought down by a guy like Regulus. As for how Garf defeats Kurgan, it goes by really fast, but when garf launches down in his final attack, you can see he takes a chunk out of Kurgans neck. He even spits out the piece when he’s on the ground. (Also a note, both Therasia AND Kurgan were corpse soldiers brought back through necromancy. So that final line seems to be him breaking out of the spell before his end) And now we return to Wilhelm VS Therasia. Any time Wilhelm speaks it sounds Shakespearean. I yapped a lot again today, but I appreciate your thoughts as always, great commentary and reaction. Extremely excited for next week, really from Ep 12 to the end of the season are just some of the best of the whole show imo.

2025-05-10 01:27:49 +0000 UTCPeak Zero Day!! This season really made me appreciate Garfiel alot more and put him as one of my favorite charachters in the show. Also at 18:23 u were concerned with Garfiel having his back to Kurgan but Garfiel doesnt actually need to look at him because of his devine protection of the earth spirits. He can manipulate and bend the ground as we saw here but it also allows him to sense his enemies (Toph style) so he could still see him even while having his back turned. I lowkey thought he had the portal of earth before until i remembered he has water so he has healing stuff, funny that he cant self heal tho huh ;) Also Vincent Chansard is a popular French animator who animated the final fight between Garfiel and Kurgan, thats why the end fight there was sooo good. Great reaction and commentary, the next ep coming up is good aswell.

My poor boy regulus cornyass getting roasted even in his death. Also I never understood the sentence "You are not her" always wondering who is her, really dumb of me...

2025-05-10 01:22:46 +0000 UTCDon't worry Rezero delves deep in every sin and if there wasn't enough time to talk about one this season it's probably for a reason Also this is a comment about last episode, I don't know if you already know all this though : Regulus is too lazy he could have done a multitude of things with his ability, in the light novel he actually ripped I think Reinhard's leg just due to his breathing. His power is actually so op but Regulus instead of using it effectively, will yap all day about his rights because before killing someone he generally needs to show said person his superiorty in every way before killing the person. (there is a very good reaon why he does that for his character).. Lion's heart only drawback is that it takes a toll on his heart and as such he can only use it for five seconds but hi other ability Little King lets him share a mini Lion’s Heart with his "wives," linking their heartbeats to his. This let him bypass the 5-second limit of Lion’s Heart, keeping his invincibility active as long as one of them was alive. To avoid losing this advantage, he married over 200 wives throughout his century-long life. But actually Little king is active on anyone he considers a "subject" of his "kingdom" the wife thingy is just something he chose because he only wants to share his heart with someone he considers to be beautiful enough to deserve it. But he could have actually shared his heart with random people or birds or whatever, which would have made it truly impossible to find the trick to his power as subaru did. But Regulus is too arrogant and unbothered for that. Now for Regulus's backstory : Basically, he grew up in a fairly poor village and his parents and siblings took care of him. They were acts of kindness but Regulus always saw them as acts of pity which led to him having an inferiority complex. He despised his family and those around him for pitying him. So after getting his authority, he wiped out his entire village and even the entire country. Except for his friend who would later become his first wife. But she never smiled at him until the day she took herself out. The cause of death of his first wife was suicide. His wife, who had never smiled at Regulus, showed him in her last moments a smile born of contempt, and that became his extreme trauma. Since then, Regulus hates it when his wives smile. I think cutting the details about his childhood out are unfortunate because it's a large part of his mindset and why he always has to get the last word. Why he has to be superior to everyone. He doesn't instantly win a fight when he could because he wants his opponent to exhaust all of their options before they lose. When Regulus curls up in the sky like a child, he's showing that he hasn't changed even once. He still has the same mindset he did as a child. Fitting. His authority freezes his body. But his mind is just as frozen because he refuses to change. In a lot of ways, he's a dark parallel to Subaru at his worst. When Subaru did things and claimed he was being generous because they were for Emilia but in actuality were for himself. When Subaru said she should be grateful to him after everything he'd done and yelled at her for not understanding. Trying to guilt trip her into seeing from his perspective. Subaru grew. Regulus did not. The only wife Regulus made his grave for was his first; but, he doesn't remember where her grave is, or her family or her face, only her smile when she died. That is why, in the flashback, only eyeless wives appear, showing only how they laugh at Regulus as they watch him dying
