Next time the corn guy gives a speech: "Is this what it's come to? Starving our children? Other settlements are swimming in corn and they're laughing at us. If we don't grow corn right now winter will come and we'll die of starvation in days. I'm not asking you to grow corn because I'm a corn enthusiast. I'm not asking you to grow corn cause God knows we have other priorities like the wall that fell. But Jackson is still here!"

I really liked the inclusion of the guy talking about corn at the meeting. Pretty simple thing but it contrasts really well with the upcoming discussion. I didn’t expect the breakdown of Ellie's speech, but it was a very welcome addition lol. It highlighted the fact that not only Ellie’s speech, but the entire decision in the first place was an entirely emotional one. There is no logical or practical reason to go after Abby, and the only one made was about “protecting against a future attack”, which doesn’t really hold up. Contrast this with the corn guy and you have someone making an argument that is completely practical, with comparatively little emotional effect. Everyone needs to eat, and while people will always find a way to, subconsciously or otherwise, bring emotion into any argument, the core of the subject is one of simple need, and how to better achieve that need. It can be much more difficult, or easier depending on the crowd, to sway a group of people when the argument is entirely emotional.
