I think from the first episode of the first season and other plot points the whole fungus thing is just a mutated evolved form of cordyceps which is already prevalent in ant populations. It basically just evolved/mutated to cross over into humans and other larger animals. I think there was some kind of comment on global warming providing pressure for the fungus to evolve to withstand higher temperature environments like the human body.

2025-04-29 09:23:34 +0000 UTCWatching the first episode has convinced me to play the game again, since I haven’t played it since it launched. I remember having quite a few issues with the execution of certain moments and themes in the game, which hurts because I think the overall narrative really has some potential. I am, however, terrified of forming opinions without feeling confident in the knowledge I’m basing them on, so I figured I’ll just spend the 10 bucks for the PS5 upgraded version and just play through it with as fresh of a mindset as I can. Also, given the unique circumstances, this’ll probably be the first and only time I watch your videos as my first watch of a show, since I already know the story anyway.
