Hear me out... I can fix her!

Truly inspiring speech from 13:40-16:00, and I can't tell you how much I agree with the thoughts at the end over the absurdity of imagining some perfect "state of nature" when it is only through tremendous effort that we are even able to rise out of nature's horrors enough to have the luxury of thinking about hypothetical realities in the first place. 6:35 "Was that a pun?" --> Sadly, not in the original Japanese, haha. The "keep an eye on it" was an English-only treat. 18:00 I much preferred your version of the quote ("The truth is only painful if you're trying to protect a lie"), but there's a little Alex wisdom and processing that's transformed it from its original Dragonball form. ("The truth is always upsetting when you choose to live a lie")

Congrats!! That's great news Capella's VA is incredible. I can't confirm this but I get the sense that certain lines or elements of her delivery are ad-libbed. It almost feels too spontaneous and wild to be scripted. The cast keeps upping the ante with the crazy. First Petelguese, then Sirius, now Capella... You'd think by now that the crazy would be tiresome. And it easily COULD have been, except for the performances and the writing

happy we got another Re: Zero episode today I was so excited to see your reaction to Capella, From the bishops we've seen so far, she might be my favorite even thought I haven't see that much of her since I'm only a couple of episodes ahead of you, I love her attitude and her VA's performance is Steller and I'm a sucker for characters who have shapeshifting powers. and the animation of her regeneration in this episode and the last one was amazing to look at, I really loved a lot of the points you talked about regarding the feeling of guilt about inner thoughts. On other news I took the language arts portion of my GED tests today and I passed it!!! so I only have 3 more test to go!

The author stating in his commentary for this episode on Twitter, that Zodda bugs in Re Zero are basically equivalent to cockroaches in real life. Hence why someone like Felt might freak out over them climbing on her face and was salty at Otto for using them as a way to help her — guess she never got used to them even with her growing up in the slums LOL

Hailan

Agreed. Commentary was on point.

Also wanted to mention, I love the stuff with Reinhard this episode. I don’t wanna say too much right now, but I have a TON to say about every bit of his characterization. Can’t wait for some later eps this season. I also just saw a comment by Snor mention this, but Regulus, as well as Capella this ep, are a mirror to how Subaru saw things in the early part of the show imo. His one minded obsession, his lack of respect for autonomy, etc. I just have a lot to say about this ep lmao, could write endless comments.

Let’s gooooo! I love this episode. The Archbishops really steal the show this time around. Regulus is such an interesting character, a creepy, objectifying one that utterly dehumanizes women, but he is interesting. He’s got such a particular way he goes about things, whether it be numbering his wives, his desire for “purity” (loved your thoughts on Emilia’s more naive personality and outlook, it’s actually one of my favorite parts about her characterization) and his obsession with rights and personal slights. One thing that is cut from the novel, (He talks A LOT, so a lot of his dialogue gets shortened, and you can pick this up from Regulus’ characterization in the anime, especially with his “virgin soul” comments) but he seemingly doesn’t actually have any interest in the act of sex or anything like that. He doesn’t engage with the women he’s deemed his wives that way. (Another note, in the narration of the novel, Emilia internally stops herself from asking too many questions, as she says she can sense he harbors “a horrifying amount of power”) Can’t wait for you to see more of him as the season goes, and how Emilia deals with this whole situation. Subaru has really got shake that nickname lmao. And finally, we get a proper introduction to Capella. You went in depth on this opening characterization for her, which was awesome to see. I have some theories on why she might be the way she is, and I agree that the reason for her beliefs is much more compelling than the beliefs themselves. There is truth to them, but they do have a shallowness to them as well. Her lines about looking only at her, and loving only her, stick out to me. I’m guessing there was some really traumatic shit that happened to her at some point in her past, probably having to do with appearance or sexual trauma or something. Just theorizing though. And I’ve mentioned this in a few comments before, and I’ll have a lot more to say about this in future eps, but I absolutely love how Re: Zero focuses on names and identity as a core tenant of its themes and narrative. It runs through every character. So it’s pretty genius to have a shapeshifting antagonist. I’m also glad you’re noticing just how connected a lot of these characters beliefs and convictions are. Whether it be the antagonists or our heroes. This gathering of all of them in one place. I’ll have a lot to say on this in coming episodes. Great thoughts as always, extremely excited for next week. Some real greatness coming up. (Also, I’ve mentioned this previously, but definitely watch Episodes 5&6 of S3 Breaktime. That cut content is super crucial, especially in context of next weeks episodes.)

Peak zero day!!! Finally reinhard is free to be his perfect self

Peak Zero Day!! I fully agree with what you said in Capella's section about not needing to feel guilty about your inner thoughts. When i was younger all i cared about was not being an awful person and when some thoughts came up in my mind, it made me question my morality quite a few times. Like there was this one time when i was walking past 3 elderly women and this random thought came up "hmm i wonder if i could 1v3 them in a fight" and it came out of absolutely nowhere, it made me think woaw am i an awful person? Thankfully i learned at some point about intrusive thoughts and that sometimes you just get unwelcomed thoughts and it doesnt define you, as long as you dont act upon your thoughts. I do fully agree with you aswell that having romantic feelings for someone isnt wrong or bad and you can still treat people like human beings and not like objects. Woaw.....Subaru woulda wished he knew that in S1 huh... we cant forget the breakdown he had with Emilia about her "owing" him everything xD I also like the section where Capella is saying that humans cant love disgusting creatures like the flies, it reminds me of the age old question "Would you still love me if i was a worm?" I think she has a point because if lets say Emilia got turned into a fly, Subaru would struggle in loving her as he did before. I mean people find other people attractive based on personality or body, if you have neither (like flies) then it becomes next to impossible to love them. Altho i do disagree with my explanation tho because if someone gets into like an accident and loses their body beauty and they are left paralyzed unable to express themselves, you can still love them because they still mean something to you. So even if they do turn into flies or worms you could make the case that you can still love them because that person will always mean something to you no matter how they may look now. Great reaction and commentary, probably one of my favorite commentary sections uve ever given.

Snor

"is that an olive oil?" lmao I can't stand you sometimes
