Severance 2x7 Reaction Extended (YT link below)

In Severance 2x7, Chikhai Bardo, your outie... hates writing thank you letters. Your innie, also not very fond of them.

My interpretation is that what they're doing is similar to training an AI. They're putting Gemma in common situations that people might want to use the severance chip to escape from, and training the system to properly recognize and isolate them. It already works almost perfectly in an artificial office environment, but maybe it needs more refining before it can be used unsupervised in the real world. That's always the sticking point, isn't it?

What? It's out already?! Rad!

What made this episode jump out to me is that it’s the first time we get any sort of flashback. The whole show has been in the present moment so it feels jarring suddenly seeing the past

this was the episode that destroyed every single theory i had. Fun fact, that shot where it goes through the wire coils is entirely practical, there's no CGI. They build that wire set up and a camera that could go down through it. I love your answer to the mudslide question. why the fuck would i be thinking about that, I'm caught in a mudslide, gonna die

I hope you’ll get a chance to react to My Hero Academia Vigilantes, a spin-off series of the main show, the first episode recently dropped and the dub is coming out the same time as the sub.

The reason this episode feels so different - at least stylistically, other than being a bit of an aside from the main plot - is that it's directed by Jessica Lee Gagné, who's the cinematographer/DP for the series. It was her first time directing, and you can tell she really took the opportunity to play with the style (in a good way). And as you mentioned right away, the flashbacks look and feel totally different, at least in part because they're shot on film rather than digitally like most of the series. Also worth noting, the title of the episode, Chikhai Bardo, apparently comes from Tibetan Buddhism and is one of six Bardos, states and stages of life, death, and rebirth. Chikhai Bardo specifically is the fourth stage, the process of the beginning of death and dissolution of the elements. During this stage, practiced meditators are supposedly able to recognize the "Clear Light" of death and remain lucid, achieving some level of enlightenment rather than fully dying and proceeding in the cycle immediately. I assume this is related to the ego death that Gemma mentions.

It makes sense for them to have some kind of partial unseverance while withholding the full thing for story purposes

It sounds familiar... Sounds like a good watch if there's space in between shows for a shorter one

For clarity, I don't think the Reghabi finished the work of undoing severance for Mark. If I'm not mistaken, Mark while being knocked out for a bit, is just remembering a lot of his past with Gemma. I also think Gemma is thinking a lot about her past with Mark. It's unlikely that both of them are thinking of each other in the exact same moment, but they decided on the artistic choice of showing what's going on in his mind and in hers. With all of that info, I don't actually believe the end is indicative of innie and outie Mark becoming one, but rather is outie Mark just finally waking up and is hurting because he misses Gemma. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I gathered based on a few different watches of this episode.

I know it’s not on your radar since it ended/came out in 2017, but Mappa made an 11 episode masterpiece right before everyone knew who Mappa was. It’s called Inuyashiki, kinda like Death Note but in a much darker way. It’ll shock you in ways you wouldn’t expect from an anime despite all the dark animes you’ve seen. Not in an overly edgy way, it’s hard to explain but it’s only 11 episodes so it’s a quick watch. It’s like CSM where it has a more realistic atmosphere which I also loved

Seth

Yeah I'm thinking I'll start it next week!

Alex G

Short question before starting this, will you be watching lazaurs or reacting to it maybe. I know you mentioned it before
