2025-04-07 01:21:29 +0000 UTCI always thought that these two interactions are great summary of the development both Subaru and Emilia get this season. S2E1: Subaru: You're amazing, Emilia-tan. Emilia: Really? I think you're much more amazing than me. Subaru: No, I'm really not. S2E25: Subaru: You're amazing, Emilia-tan. Emilia: You think so? Thanks. But I think that about you too, I really do. The way they initially put each other on a pedestal and downplay themselves, and by the end it develops into more equal partnership, still with admiration, but way more healthy. It's my favourite little detail.

2025-03-19 12:15:19 +0000 UTCThere is a mistranslation in Roswaal's conversation to Subaru at the Knighting Ceremony. The line "If I lost anyone, I would not hesitate to reduce everything to ashes" has the wrong subject. It should read "If you lost anyone, I will not hesitate to reduce everything to ashes". Also something to note for Season 3 of Re:Zero. There are 2 different legal subs for the show. There's Crunchyroll as per usual, but there's also Muse Asia. The Muse Asia subs are more accurate, as their translator is a Re:Zero source reader and takes extra effort to preserve certain aspects of the subs that CR tends to eliminate. The downside to the Muse Asia subs though, is that it's aimed for an ESL audience, so it's linguistically simpler. It should be noted though, that the CR subs do have mistakes, and some of them are significant and do cause confusion to many people. It should also be noted that the subs you've watched up till now, are also like that. Anyway, I thought I'd let you know since there is an argument for either version. On a related note, there are 2 extremely extremely important Break Time episodes that it is imperative that you watch (even if you don't watch Break Time otherwise). These are S03E05 and S03E06 (and they should be watched after the regular S03E05, and then after the regular S03E06). You will understand their importance once you watch them. I've been extremely satisfied with your reactions thus far. It's very refreshing to see someone analyze the show and not get too caught up in their own emotions or perspective and see what's going on under the surface and the different ways that things could be viewed. Very few reactors I've seen have done that as consistently as you have. I eagerly look forward to the extra Re:Zero content and your Season 3 reactions.

2025-03-14 18:32:25 +0000 UTCWait would the oath still have taken subaru even if he reset to a point before he made the bet? Thats kinda scary actually cuz Roswaal couldve just killed Subaru at any point.

2025-03-14 17:18:48 +0000 UTCProbably my least favourite change going from the web novel to the light novel is the Oath. In the web novel, when Subaru is making his bet with Roswaal (Episode 14), they both discuss the fact that if Subaru dies he can just renge on their little bet with Roswaal none the wiser, thus entirely killing the point of the bet. So, Subaru proposes creating an Oath between them. Subaru HAS to knowingly and consentingly enter into the Oath, with the terms that are laid out, and so we spend the entire back half of Arc 4 in this hyper-tense situation where if Subaru dies then he'll basically become a pawn of Roswaal and thing will turn truly horrific. You don't want to believe that it's possible, but Arc 4 by this point has done nothing but beat Subaru down whenever he may be making a bit of progress, and so I found it made the final loop torturously tense. In the light novel, and thus the anime, it's just revealed at the end that Subaru was a hair's breadth away from having to sacrifice several of his loved ones during the final loop, and then they play it for comedy. It's super lame. Not to mention it adds some worldbuilding issues where you have to wonder what exactly is stopping high level merchants from just forcing an Oath with unfair terms onto parties that they are negotiating with (this would be more in black market dealings, as obviously trust in the merchant would be heavily damaged by such an act). This could maybe be a cool bit of worldbuilding, but we get absolutely 0 further info on whether or not a person has to willingly enter into an Oath, or if it's just something hyper-skilled magicians like Roswaal can do. Anyways, that's that rant over. I assume that you basically picked up on this, but in the novels I seem to remember it being explicitly stated that Roswaal was having children, and then when he died he would take over the bodies of his children. So on the long list of crimes he has committed we can add like 10 counts of "erasing the souls of his children from existence and hijacking their bodies." Roswaal is one of my favourite characters and antagonists, so many layers to him, and it really feels like we've just scratched the surface. Also in the web novel (Maybe in the light novel, I'm not sure), Subaru notes in some internal narration that he went into Echidna's tomb and that the Echidna he saw did not look like the one he saw in the Castle of Dreams. Can't remember if he theorised much about that. On the question of if Subaru and Roswaal's paths even conflict in terms of their goals, it doesn't really matter what Subaru thinks on the matter. Roswaal's Tome dictated that he needed to make the snow fall in the Sanctuary and send assassins to the mansion. He interpreted this as meaning Subaru needed to learn how to sacrifice people by accepting the murder of his friends in order to save the woman he loves. Roswaal's insanity makes him fundamentally opposed to everything Subaru wants and believes. If Roswaal continued down his path, he would continue to commit atrocity after atrocity because he has decided to discard his humanity. And Subaru will not stand for that. If Roswaal finds an ethical way to revive Echidna, maybe there's some leeway. On the topic of Subaru using Return By Death, I think some people are misunderstanding his resolve. He will question at what point he would wilfully trigger Return By Death. What if so-and-so dies? What if someone gets a life-altering injury? Et cetera, et cetera. He still doesn't have his answer. What he's resolved to do is to try and minimise how much he uses it, to not fall into the habit of using loops just for information gathering, or deploying cruel methods in order to get what he wants because "I'll reset everything in the end anyways." He knows that he will almost certainly have to use it in the future (He even asks Satella if RBD is a tool that he can use, and makes it pretty clear that he's not certain about it). It's a complex issue that isn't magically resolved. We've just stopped him from becoming another version of Roswaal, deploying twisted and cruel methods to achieve his goals while invalidating the agency of those around him. Finally, at the end of the episode, Roswaal's speech to Subaru is much more threatening and ominous in the novels. The basic gist of it is that he believes that Subaru's greedy path of clinging to his humanity and saving everyone will one day shatter his heart and break him, and that now Subaru has forced Roswaal to walk this path and taken away his Gospel, Roswaal will not allow Subaru to let anyone die. He implies (basically directly threatens), that if anyone dies, Roswaal will kill everyone else at the expense of his own life in order to force Subaru to reset. So even in his defeat, Roswaal finds a way to be an evil little bastard. Loved your reaction to season 2, and can't wait to see what you think of 3. Glad that you've enjoyed the show so far. Next season, Arc 5, the name of which in the web novel is "Stars That Engrave History."

2025-03-14 09:19:28 +0000 UTCThe Petra shade is insane. Fun fact about Petra. If you remember season 1, Petra was able to see through the enchantment that Roswaal placed on Emilia's cloak. The one that prevented recognition. She was able to recognise Emilia and Subaru. The fact that she was able to se through Roswaal's enchantment means that she has the potential to surpass him in magic capabilities.

2025-03-14 07:41:52 +0000 UTCYeah it's highly unlikely to be adapted in the anime. They left out lots of stuff in season 1 because they never planned on making more of the anime. So they didn't wanna bring up too many things that will only become relevant or be resolved in the far future. Same with season 2 as far as I know, though they also ran out of time for a lot of stuff. Even with prolonged episode run times, arc 4 just can't fit into 25 episodes. I think now with season 3, they're planning on adapting the entire series. So far I haven't noticed any relevant information being left out of the anime in season 3 (stuff that's important for the overall story). But seasons 1 and 2 have too much important cut content so you should watch cut content videos for those at least. Some of that they reveal later on in season 3 in the break time shorts but those aren't even officially translated into English.

2025-03-14 07:26:10 +0000 UTCThose are good episodes, enjoyed them aswell. If i had to pick a fav ep out of this season it would be ep 24 for sure. Seeing subaru wanna help beatrice out of her situation was so heartwarming. Cant wait for the greed if reaction. Am excited to see what ur take on it will be. Also btw someone else commented it already on here but the video "how season 2 actually ends" if u havent watched it already u totally should. I get why they would cut it "probably to set up for a suprise later" but when i saw the vid like an hour ago i was shocked. Would recommend u see it alongside the greed if (if u havent already seen it that is)

2025-03-14 06:08:31 +0000 UTCIt's a tough dilemma. It's an unfair burden that he is the one that has to decide whether to proceed or not, at the cost of great personal pain, short term physical pain and long term emotional pain. With all the hostile forces in the world, it's not his fault if someone gets hurt. And he has value too and that is important to consider for reasons both spiritual and practical. From there, unfortunately (or fortunately?) the choice is still his to make, and it's almost undoubtedly the best case scenario (assuming someone has already died) that he undo it while managing the fallout of that as healthily as possible. The question is can he do that honestly, ethically, and safely given that he is important too. And if he chooses not to, can he also live with that fact for the rest of his life?

2025-03-14 05:53:37 +0000 UTCThank you 😂 I'll fix that Choosing a favorite episode is tough, but both Subaru and Emilia's trials are contenders for me, as is the Witches Tea Party as a whole. Also, there's a 3 or 4 episode string this season that was unbelievable, I think starting with Subaru with the witches then coming out to the love love love you sequence with Envy, and then Roswaal getting devoured by rabbits, ending with Subaru totally broken and consoling Emilia who is losing it.

2025-03-14 05:52:04 +0000 UTCAmazing reaction as always and we're at the episode that my pfp is based on lol. On the Return By Death thing I would say if things got really bad like Emilia or Beatrice dying I don't think he'd hesitate to RBD. Also in a lot of cases if they're facing an enemy that has the power to kill someone close to him then Subaru probably won't be able to survive the fight much longer after they die. Super excited for season 3 and the break times if you're doing them at some point.

2025-03-14 05:06:06 +0000 UTCTwo things I will say, A. Petra reaction is the most honest, Roswal was willing to inflict so much pain and horror and evil on innocent people, Petras people, and even though she will move on to not disrespect everyone else's feelings, she is 100% validated to not be able to forgive him. and B. On Subarus choice to not use return by death willingly, it should be noted that even without the self hate and the feeling that it is the only thing that he can offer, I read it as he doesn't deserve the pain, and what every death etches in him for eternity, that even if he does it for the right reasons, without disregard for himself, he deserves to live without carrying the countless tolls he may have paid willingly, but each one leaves him with a deep and unhealing wound, that he shouldn't have to pay.

2025-03-14 04:52:12 +0000 UTCIt's very unlikely. If this were going to be adapted, it would have happened by now or never. Future seasons (we're talking many, many years down the line) might touch on it through a small flashback, but I doubt the full extent of it would be adapted, it's just too out of the way for that to happen.

2025-03-14 02:54:17 +0000 UTCIs there a chance it might be included or referenced in later seasons? Light novel adaptations have, on occasion, rearranged when information appears in the story. I watched videos that talked about skipped content during S1, but I stopped during S2, just in case the anime planned to reveal stuff later. Granted, without knowing what happens in the light novels going forward (which is good, as I want to watch blind), I have no way to determine whether skipped content might appear later... or if I'm missing out.

2025-03-14 02:07:45 +0000 UTCSeason 2 Finale!!! Let’s go. It’s been a treat to see you go through this whole show, and the ending of S2 is a milestone. We’ve now reached the conclusion of Arc 4, The Eternal Contract. I love how Subaru uses others strengths to defeat the rabbit. He’s now contracted with Betty, much like how Emilia and Puck were, and she’s quite the powerful addition. I also just love all the cute Betty noises we get to hear now. Her VA is great. I loveee the Betty and Roswaal discussion they have in front of Echidnas grave. Such a great scene. Roswaal’s line “Would you curse me as an inhuman monster?” Has always stuck with me. In a world where curses, oaths, and promises hold so much weight, it’s interesting to hear him say it in that way. And Echidna looks a little different. A bit older. I love the shot of her turning, it feels like we maybe got a glance at her true self there. And Puck… man he’s just not a great parent. Leaves all the time, shelters Emilia, and now doesn’t tell her how babies are made. What a disaster. Also brings on a whole new dark meaning to the “kiss of death” from earlier this season. Roswaal’s use of the “oath” has always been such an interesting point for me. He’s very self-sacrificing, much like Subaru is, and his self-worth is at the bottom of an ocean trench. I also feel somewhat bad for him during the punch-fest. Roswaal’s discussion with him before the commencement is so great. He’s not giving up, but he is giving Subaru some ground. And on Return by Death, Subaru will continue to grapple with what the “right” use of it is. But, I think vowing not to use it of his own accord is a good step for him. And Subaru is finally knighted. It’s such a great feeling to see him actually reach this milestone. As for their balcony discussion, the thing she wants to discuss with him is what she saw in the trial. I love, love, love this arc of the story. You nailed a lot of the finer details in the discussion. I also love how much you love Echidna. I’m in a similar boat. She’s such a wonderfully crafted character. It really feels like we’ve gotten to the end of the prologue for Re: Zero. Sounds crazy this far in, but truly it does feel like that. The characters still have lots of growing to do, things to resolve, and relationships to strengthen. And that does it for S2. Again, it’s been a treat to see you go through this show. Great thoughts as always, and now on to S3, and Arc 5, The Stars What Make History!

2025-03-14 02:06:19 +0000 UTCGreat reaction, and those filters xD it was funny. Tbf Echidna did look a little different but i cant put my finger on it. You mentioned you didnt sink in how much Subaru refuses to use rbd now, i dont wanna spoil anything for u for s3 but thats an interesting take i didnt consider before going into s3 him not using rbd even if like emilia died, altho going into it i would have assumed he still would. Also i did wanna ask what your favorite season was thus far but since you already said season 2 what is your favorite episode thus far? For me its gotta be EP 18 the Rem speech, no matter how many times i rewatch it, it never gets old. Also you mentioned the talk that Subaru and Emilia wanted to have, im pretty sure thats cut content so it probably wont appear in the anime. If u want to know what they talked about i can let u know in replies. Great reaction, I am excited for the season 3 reactions as imo its peak. Oh also u put one of the Assasinations Classroom reactions in the rezero collection. Might have to announce u as the new Sin Archbishop of Sloth, very slothful man xD (Im kidding, im not looking to tell u this i promise, i jus happen to go back and rewatch ur reactions sometimes so i just notice it xD)

2025-03-14 01:55:14 +0000 UTCNow that I think about it, you should definitely watch this video (it's a pretty short video) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdUpQvareJY&t=27s It covers the final chapter of Arc 4 (Season 2) that was cut from the anime, answering many of your questions about Echidna and offering additional insights into her character that you might have missed. It's unfortunate they removed it, though I can understand their reasoning—at least more so than with some other cuts this season. Also that filter was amazing

2025-03-14 01:47:34 +0000 UTCEchidna is one of the most thought provoking characters I've ever read. And her influence in the world and lore gets astounding as time goes on, so don't worry. This story does a really good job of fleshing out characters, and ofc due to the nature of it being book to anime adaptation some of the details have to get cut in order to make a compelling anime. (also a lot of 'show dont tell' philosophy being used) So a lot of implications that you have to watch out for. It's great for theory crafting! And yeah I always believe that Season 2 is the season that really makes clear about the narrative of the story and what growth and character writing strengths it truly does have.
