I’ve always figured that Beatrice’s book was empty because she had given up on her future. Since the book serves as a ‘guide’ to its user’s desires/future, someone who believes they have no future would naturally end up with a blank book. On the other hand, Roswaal’s book still contains written instructions because he remains firmly committed to his goal, following the path laid out for him. It’s interesting how the books are quite error-prone. I presume this is due to people like Subaru, who, through Return By Death, continuously defy fate. Despite this, Roswaal’s book has proven invaluable to him, allowing him to set an effective trap for Subaru, deduce his abilities, and secure Ram, Rem, and Emilia by his side. It’s certainly not the worst tool, but his overreliance on it seems to be his downfall. I believe he even mentions in an earlier episode that the world is coming to an end because it has strayed from the book’s guidance, almost as if he cannot accept any reality beyond what the book dictates, convinced that its words are the only path to achieving his desired future. And one more curious thing about the books—since they are granted by Echidna's authority, is she actually the one 'writing' them? That would make a lot of sense. If that's the case, the big twist could be that Echidna has been the true villain all along, manipulating events from the very beginning of season one up to this point. By using the book to control Roswaal’s actions, she effectively turned him into nothing more than a puppet. Some real 5D chess moves, wouldn’t expect anything less from best girl :P

2025-03-07 04:41:54 +0000 UTCIn hindsight out of the many problems, one of the biggest was the library. Choose out of WHO? Who goes there? It might have gone faster if she was waiting at a train station. Could have been a public library

2025-03-07 04:07:10 +0000 UTCOh shoot! I forgot to comment about the moment at 3:30. Puck says あの魔人みたいにはなれない, "You can never (truly) be like that 'devil / warlock = Hector of Melancholy'" So, I think that's more evidence for something about Roswaal's current condition and the "8th sin."

2025-03-07 03:55:43 +0000 UTCThe villagers agreeing to wait outside in a blizzard like it's no big deal... 😂 I've been wondering if the virtues will make an appearance in human form at some point.

2025-03-07 03:46:25 +0000 UTCEveryone in this show seems much more heat- and cold-resistant than I am. Like, all the little clones are running around in the snow barefoot in a nightgown, and then Subaru and the others are scrambling through a mansion on fire. I would have much bigger problems than exhibiting patience, but on that note: you might remember that, in contrast to the seven deadly sins, there are their opposites: the seven heavenly virtues. Patience happens to be the opposite of Wrath, who we haven't met yet. Wonderful advice that (ironically? fittingly?) I wish I could have heard a long time ago at the end, haha.

2025-03-07 03:06:25 +0000 UTCAND SO Subaru fulfills his promise to Echidna he would not choose to take her hand to use her power to help him. Instead he picks to take Betty's hand who he believes Echidna mentally tortured for curiosity sake to see who Betty "chooses" when Betty never realized it was her choice in the first place.

2025-03-07 03:03:27 +0000 UTCIt’s here. I absolutely love this episode. It’s just so amazing, and gives so much payoff to stuff that’s been setup since early S1. Like we’ve been building to this from the moment we met Betty. I love Emilia and Roswaal’s one-sided conversation, and you aptly put the state of mind Roswaal is in currently. Plus Ram is still alive, which is a relief. Can’t have best girl dying on us. Glad you picked up on the stuff with Roswaal researching souls and vessels as well. I’m really glad you seemed to pick up on the fact that one of the Ryuzu’s had Echidnas voice internally. It’s the first time we hear her voice in the physical world that’s not a flashback. As you said, she’s had a presence since day 1, and she’s clearly got lots of plans laid down. Also just a side note/reminder, the rabbits are drawn to mana. So the larger the amount, the more they are drawn to it. And as Daphne said, they don’t have the wisdom to avoid being killed, and have virtually no intelligence, so as we saw Emilia do, you can kinda herd them if you’re skilled enough. And finally, the stuff with Beatrice. It’s just so amazing. I’ve been on both sides of conversations like this, and the outcome feels so earned and it just makes me so emotional. Re: Zero’s dialogue is one of its greatest strengths, and it really shows here. It just really makes me appreciate how deliberate and intentional the author Tappei has been with every aspect of this story. It’s hard to even put it into words, it just resonates with me so strongly. Honestly, it’s hard for me to even say more. Great thoughts, and I’m super excited for the S2 finale!
