Unrelated question: but are you gonna react to the MHA You’re Next Movie? Since it came out digitally? (dub included)

2025-03-01 18:24:36 +0000 UTCI may not agree but from a logical standpoint, I really don’t blame Oliver for thinking life isn’t special. His short life has really been filled with nothing but violence and that’s one way to cope with that is just to say life isn’t special so no wonder people kill each other all the time

2025-03-01 06:15:34 +0000 UTCI found out that Autotune Guy was Micheal Weston from Burn Notice and my mind was blown lol, I used to watch that show religiously

2025-03-01 05:45:26 +0000 UTCyeah this was an issue in the source material too and is somewhat a staple of the series lol. best not to overthink it i find

2025-03-01 05:40:33 +0000 UTCI think a lot of changes like this can be attributed to Robert Kirkman being a more mature writer at 46 than he was at 26. Mark's silence gets the idea across even stronger than saying it directly

2025-03-01 05:30:28 +0000 UTCHim reducing his strength to prevent harming others makes sense. And yeah there are great moments of him demonstrating his strength and speed, him catching Oliver was awesome. Sometimes there are moments that feel like he shouldn't be struggling, like him getting wrapped up by the bank robbers tongue, but it's ok, not a huge issue and difficult to get perfect in a way that makes sense for every situation

2025-03-01 05:25:04 +0000 UTCHmm that is an interesting difference. IIRC that scene gets cut off in a way that felt a little abrupt to me, so maybe it does happen in the show but not shown there for some reason

2025-03-01 05:16:24 +0000 UTCSo a couple things about "mark isint strong after training" it's unfortunate but for the show to keep mark in character his strength has to be toned down alot into a show dont tell situation. 1. We saw with the two guys stealing the declaration of Independence peak/top human athletic strength basically doesn't even budge mark and he could one shot a person of Olympic level with one punch into a pole bending it. He mentions he is purposly taking hits here and trying to tire the guy out vs direct contact and risking a kill if he over does it (he also likely has a mental block due to overdoing it once vs a super villian with super strength that he killed). Which is why mark has very little worry in the 2v1 fights vs the lower vilians this episode. He is puposly powering himself down to not kill bungee man the magma men or electric guy. Only when he thinks Oliver is in danger does he send bungee man instantly catered into a wall or one shots electric and tin man. 2. We see his regeneration/durability is crazy fast/high. When fighting those cave bugs it was stated their shells and muscles were used to the density of living in the earth core so higher gravity made them strong no hero shown was able to break their shelss or do real damage without teaming up except mark who could break their teeth after a few hits to a fang that peirced him. Which that fang wound started closing up already within the same day it gets visually smaller and dissappears the next day. Where when mark used to get hurt you would see bruising for days/weeks of time. (Omniman also was overpowered by aliens from higher gravity before). Then vs cecils upgraded robo men the worst wounds he got were back brushes from them constantly punching him at guardians HQ. Don't forget Omniman fought 3-4 of a weaker version of those guys and still got small scrapes to the face. 3. When people look at this episode and see mark vs the maulers as weak it's a very surface level look. He got shocked by a nervous system gun kinda hampering him originally. While fighting despite not doing too much to the mailers (again holding back) he has zero visible damage thanks to his durability. Even after taking a missile impact from a missile that was meant to take a nuke into space (remember the mailers took the nuke off and added a emp they just needed a missile strong enough to reach satellites) he was fazed for less than 10 minutes max with no damage. Meanwhile Oliver didn't have to deal with the gun and also got hit by the mailers but when he got hit he sustained facial brushes and his eye swelled. We also see mark saying "when did you get so fast" that is not him saying Oliver is faster just that he didn't realize Oliver was this strong already (we know he was likely hiding his powers too). Mark was able to stop change direction then still outspeed Oliver and catch him after stopping again. If mark wanted to he could easily one shot all the vilians today in this episode but he is purposly trying not to. While Oliver has little care for the villians or his surrounds. As far as Oliver getting stronger than Mark if we belive Omnimans words then he won't. Omniman said viltumite DNA literally slowly takes over a body. And mark as a human hybrid was nearly full viltrimite and looked like one too. Meanwhile Oliver and the thraxian DNA made him purple, have a higher growth rate than normal (viltrumites age slow not fast so while mark may live 1000s like his dad Oliver may only live 100s for all we know due to his species only living a year roughly vs the humans 80ish). Then when other viltrimites saw Oliver they was him as a "inferior hybrid species" while mark was given a chance to be a viltrumite. The clues point to Oliver being strong (and perhaps smarter than at least mark due to his intellectual growth being basically faster than a human the early years) but not stronger or faster than mark if the DNA pureness means you get more viltrumite traits in full.

2025-03-01 05:14:32 +0000 UTCAn interesting point is that in the comics when Mark is asked by Oliver if he ever wonders if Dad was right Mark responds that he does at times. In this version he stays silent...

2025-03-01 05:14:28 +0000 UTCOliver really throws it into sharp contrast that our protagonist is kinda... I don't want to say "dumb" exactly... Mark is a very good guy. Super earnest.
