Hmm? Who put it all together?? HUH???? WHO SUCKS AND CAN'T NEGOTIATE NOW!!!!

I feel like the whole thing with Willhelm telling, or rather not telling, Theresia that he loves her, that he will do it later when he feel like it, and how it's cut and all, implies that he never actually told her "I love you" before she died Which just makes the scene where he cries that out load that much more impactful for me!

2024-12-16 23:34:45 +0000 UTCOne cool FunFact, which I really bloody love, regarding Subarus Character Developement and how worthy he thinks he is etc. — He has yet to appear on the cover of a Light Novel Volume! Which is intentional from the author as far as I know. Though that's sadly not the case for the Manga, where the author seems to have less control over it

2024-12-16 23:28:28 +0000 UTCOne thing I feel like you might have glossed over, is that while the other besides Subaru could figure out how many were missing — Probably cause of some preperation they did — They still couldn't remember the actual persons themself. Also, the Existence Erasure thing is not omnipotent, which that shows. And regarding Subaru's weird Immunity —It is very strongly implied that this is the case cause of his connection to the witch of envy, since the Whale is a Mabeast and was called Gluttony by Puck, similar to how Subaru could see the Authority of Sloth, the Unseen Hands, which clearly isn't usually possible judging by Betelgeuses reaction to that and all. Edit: Immediately after I wrote this he said exactly that ofc, though I did alaso mean him remembering people, not just the mind attack thingy

2024-12-16 22:18:35 +0000 UTCOne reason why they couldn't really defeat it before, or even try to, is the lack of information where it will appear and thus could never fully prepare like now

2024-12-16 21:59:44 +0000 UTC"The only one who may sniff Subaru-kun is me!" LMFAO what a line from Rem.

2024-11-25 19:31:51 +0000 UTCI'm not sure how the specifics of the memory erasure works, and I'm not sure why for some reason it doesn't seem to work on Subaru. Might related to his Return by Death power. ("Power? I was describing the show to my brother the other day and I realized you can hardly even call that a power, it's more of a curse as we've seen) But I imagine it's like... your brain would try to fill in the blanks with whatever makes the most sense? Kinda like what happens when you have weird dreams. So the squad leaders had a number in their head counting the people in their squad, the people erased by the fog didn't change that number, they can remember what that number is supposed to be, they just cannot remember anything about what people were lost, it's kind of a terrifying thought, scarier than death even. Just my thoughts, unlike series like MHA I haven't actually read the manga for re:zero so I can speculate to my heart's content without worrying about spoiling lol

2024-11-25 18:07:06 +0000 UTCYeah. If Subaru had been a part of her camp, or even just a completely neutral party, I imagine her reaction to him begging for help would have been far more kind and more akin to the Crusch we see in this episode. It's just the nature of politics I suppose.

2024-11-21 23:22:49 +0000 UTCRe:Zero does a really good job at showing that each character has different sides to them and are not one dimensional. Which side we see depends on how Subaru reacts and can adapt to the situation he's in. He's been an ignorant, stubborn, rageful, emotionally distraught fool for the last few episodes.. so it makes sense that he reactions he gets from people are far from favorable. I also think Re:Zero has well established how cruel and chaotic (especially politically) this world is, so of course no one can afford to be unreasonably generous and accept Subaru's "just trust me bro" attitude when it comes to trying to fight and risk losing against a mysterious and infamously dangerous witch cult just to save some strangers. Meeting such naive kind people like Emilia truly is rare. Anyway seeing Subaru win is a hella lot more satisfying after being forced to watch him be dragged through the mud of his own ignorance and mistakes caused by his own insecurities and faults.. and learning from them. Not only that but learning to confont, adapt and overcome the unfair cruel nature of the world. Re:Zero to me, during Season 1, feels like a story about confronting the brutal reality of the world and one's self. The world is unfair and cruel.. and that's never going to change. Not even for you. But sometimes the world isn't the problem. Sometimes its something within yourself that is the cause of your failures and suffering. That will never change unless you confront those uncomfortable issues head on, accept your flaws and try to be better.

2024-11-21 08:17:01 +0000 UTCIf Theresia isn't Reinhardt's mother or aunt, I would be really surprised. Red hair, blue eyes, same surname.

2024-11-21 07:41:35 +0000 UTCYes but the only experience she had with him was him acting a fool and dishonoring himself in front of everyone and she still agreed to have Felis heal him on Emilia's behalf. Also, she was meanest to him while he was acting like a wild beast after watching everyone be slaughtered. We know why he was acting that way but she didn't and he "refuses" to say why. She is all about being a knight and honor so it makes sense to me. Still really like your take.

2024-11-21 03:55:21 +0000 UTCI don't think she represented herself well in previous episodes. I get that it was from Subaru's perspective, but judging based on words and actions it all felt a little mercenary to me. Which is understandable but not exactly awe inspiring. This episode on the other hand...

2024-11-21 03:54:43 +0000 UTCThat makes so much sense. Weird to try to imagine processing the idea that you just lost people who to you never existed. Do the novels cover where Theresia came from? Because that whole thing is so weird and otherworldly

2024-11-21 03:52:16 +0000 UTCLove these episodes. They’re the first proper look at the other part of Re: Zero, which is an epic fantasy. Wilhelm is such an amazing character. You said that his and theresias relationship could be its own story, it actually is. The author wrote a trilogy of spin off books detailing their past, and tons of lore and history. They’re absolutely incredible. Hope they get animated one day. I love how much of a turnaround this is for Subaru in this part of the story, not only does he get to have his best qualities shine, but he gets to really interact with someone he can look up to in Wilhelm. In terms of influences, the author clearly draws from a lot of places. Lots of classic literature, but also for sure Final Fantasy. He hasn’t specifically stated what influenced him, but you can pick up clues. Also fun fact, while it doesn’t come up in the anime, in the novel, Subaru references Hunter X Hunter a number of times. He’s just like me fr. Super excited for the next eps, anything with Julius in them is just the best.

2024-11-21 03:45:07 +0000 UTCSo many times i see your opinion on things and I'm like"that's going to change." Like with Crusch. She is probably the best candidate imo. Also fuck whale. Whale kill best girl whale die.

2024-11-21 03:27:37 +0000 UTCIt'll be easy to spot when to skip. For the final episode you can watch the title card and end credits, but after the credits scroll is when the scene begins. Just stop watching since, as Gus said, it is frame-for-frame the first scene in season 2

2024-11-21 03:03:33 +0000 UTCOn your question of how they know people are missing if they were erased from existence: It's explained in the novels that in order to counteract the Fog of Elimination (which the Re:Zero world is aware of to some degree based off of previous attacks), each unit within the White Whale hunt was made to be exactly the same size, and this fact was clearly communicated to everyone. That way, when the number of people in their unit decreases they know that they've lost soldiers. If they don't recognise the fact, then they'll become aware by checking the numbers of other units (this part I don't remember being explicitly stated, it's just how it would work in my head). Funny that you mention a Theresia OVA. Though I think the Wilhelm flashbacks were a bit more extended in the novels, if you want to get the REAL Wilhelm/Theresia backstory then there is a series of 3 spin off novels which cover their young life (from initial meeting to a bit after they get married). There is still plenty of backstory that doesn't get covered in those novels, but there's some bigger plot stuff there. I very much love the backstory we get in the anime, but obviously when their story is the main focus of a series of novels everything is very fleshed out and makes more sense. For example, the reason Wilhelm gets so pissed when finding out Theresia is the Sword Saint can be inferred from the anime (Wilhelm in the previous episode stated that his wife was someone that hated the sword, even though it loved her), he is mad at is own weakness but also mad at the fact that she is picking up the sword when she despises it. This then is obviously one of the centrepieces of the novels involving how they met, with some extra details that I won't reveal (even though we probably aren't ever gonna see these novels adapted ;( ). No other major notes. There's some cut content between Rem and Subaru after the White Whale fight, but unsure whether to talk about that, so I'll just leave it be for now. Not important to the plot, but important to their characters. Thanks for your reaction, can't wait for the next episode!

2024-11-21 02:55:09 +0000 UTCFYI about the end of the season before I forget: The last episode of the directors cut has an extra end-credit scene. I would recommend AGAINST watching it. It was added as a cliffhanger/teaser thingy and kinda detracts from the rest of the episode unless you need to wait a long time for season 2 to start like we did. The entire scene plays again at the beginning of season 2 episode 1 so you won't miss anything by skipping it. Other than that, OVA2 - The Frozen Bond, should be watched before starting season 2, it's more plot relevant than OVA1 so don't miss it!
