Added 2024-09-27 01:00:04 +0000 UTCIn One Punch Man 1x1, The Strongest Man, for a hero who's doing this for fun, he's not having a lot of fun (and nobody can relate).

2024-09-27 22:41:08 +0000 UTCThe Vaccine man at the beginning and the younger of the two brothers that later grows giant are a parody of Piccolo and the Colossal Titan as you noticed. This anime does do that, though it’s not a reoccurring theme of every episode just one of the comedic aspects that is there sometimes. The world definitely feels dystopian in some sense like you noticed, cities have single letters as their names, monsters seem to appear constantly, some of which cause citywide destructions even in just the first episode. Most people don’t question this too much but the world and these very aspects of it are some of the most mysterious things about it which do get addressed more and more but very slowly. I think the guy that turned into a titan and started immediately killing thousands when before his goal was just to be the strongest might just be a simple commentary on how quickly power can corrupt. One thing that i think is worth mentioning about Saitama’s dream is that while the monsters were clearly incomparably above average human strength, Saitama still bled from their attacks that only punched him trough a couple of buildings while in real life the Titan guy threw him trough a sky scraper and punched him into the ground so hard it left a crater sized colossal hole and yet Saitama emerged unscathed. I completely missed this the first time and even if i hadn’t one could just pass it of as the scale of the attacks and the damage they do being inconsistent. But actually he was just weaker due to being in a dream and OPM actually has very consistent power scaling not just for Saitama but for other characters. They don’t just conveniently become absurdly weaker or stronger for no reason against any opponent. Not sure how much you care about this but i thought it was interesting to mention. And having already explained to us what used to bother you about the meaning of life and how you saw it from a different perspective when you looked at it as not being just about you but the world as a whole and how your actions affect the world and people both now and in the future, when we barely got past the opening scene and the opening of episode 1 is exactly why i love you 🤣👌 That was a classic Goodwin moment for me but all the jokes aside i came to a similar conclusion to that when these questions bothered me though i wouldn’t know how to articulate it as well as you did. Some aspect of Saitama’s state of mind is definitely melancholy like you said. He does need something else or some other journey or meaning to rediscover the joy he used to have along with other emotions. Or potentially even an actual monster strong enough to rekindle his passion for battle? It is another example of the journey being more important than the destination. Especially since in his case the strength he had to obtain to fulfil his goal makes him uniquely lonely. No one can challenge him and no one can relate to how living with that feels.

2024-09-27 20:17:07 +0000 UTCI'm so excited for this series with Mr.Goodwin. Thank you! Also I think the ED is a compilation of the neighbourhood saitama lives in but might become more clear later on

2024-09-27 13:37:08 +0000 UTCYeah. It's very much a commentary on the world of shonen in japan and super heroes in the west. Like quite literally even with the strongest punch imaginable you can't just punch away all the worlds problems.

2024-09-27 04:51:16 +0000 UTCYeah, it was kinda jarring for me, but was still very enjoyable. Weirdly enough, the sound effects through me off the most, it ended up sounding like counter strike guns when they were punching haha.

2024-09-27 04:12:55 +0000 UTCHaven't watched the show past season one, but apparently people tend to offer their condolences to the fandom because of the studio change from season 2 onward. No matter how that'll turn out though, just glad to have a reason for a rewatch now.

2024-09-27 03:28:36 +0000 UTCThis might just inspire me to actually read One Punch Man. I started it a while ago and then stopped for whatever reason, but I’ve heard nothing but good things. Plus, season 3 is apparently in the works. Thoroughly enjoyed the anime though and can’t wait for these videos!

2024-09-27 01:50:02 +0000 UTCIt's weird it's taken me this long. I did start it along time ago, and I also watched Mob Psycho, so it feels like it's been there the whole time
