Yep as someone who just celebrated his bday (3 days early as well mine's on the 5th but work got in the way for most friends and family 💀) I also appreciate more intimate outings for food and such. Helps that I don't like parties and crowded places too lol

2024-12-03 14:16:51 +0000 UTCAhh, a fellow December birthday. I've also long since stopped caring about the whole birthday/Christmas combined gift thing lol. I'm also just not really a huge fan of birthday gifts in general, so the idea of a giant steak as a birthday celebration seems much more appealing to me. These days a decent meal with family/friends is the ideal birthday gift.

2024-04-16 22:51:12 +0000 UTCSorry Goodwin but that isn't what occured in Avengers 2 (Age of Ultron) Captain America tries to lift Thor's hammer like everyone else but is the only one who is able to slightly move it on the table, which only Thor himself notices and gets kinda nervous for comedic effect. It isn't until Avengers: Endgame that Captain America actually uses Thor's hammer.

2024-04-15 00:52:29 +0000 UTCI'm imagining something like Avengers 2 where Captain America realizes he can lift Thor's hammer but chooses not to

2024-04-15 00:52:02 +0000 UTCThat's really interesting. It adds a lot of subtlety to the conceptualization of the "demons"

2024-04-15 00:47:44 +0000 UTCThat's a cool way of looking at it. Now I'm imagining an alternate reality where Frieren isn't there and Himmel just goes into the fetal position while crying

2024-04-15 00:47:23 +0000 UTCI saw an interesting comment once on the idea that the "Hero's Sword" doesn't reveal the hero by who can pull it from its stone, but instead forges the hero that can reconcile with being unable to pull the sword from its stone and go onward to save the world regardless. It's essentially an ego filter rather than an actual sword of prophecy. Or it could actually be a sword of prophecy, but to hell with that shit. Himmel can't let himself look like a doofus in front of his old-lady elf crush.

2024-04-14 05:19:05 +0000 UTCI think the implication with Stark only remembering these things about his past now is that he's been telling himself that he's been a coward and that his family was right to deem him a failure for so long that it warped his perception of the event.

2024-04-14 04:59:34 +0000 UTCI love how everyone comes to the conclusion that Fern is the real pervert and that she's just projecting her perverted thoughts onto everyone else XD.

2024-04-13 13:26:02 +0000 UTCContender for best episode yet. 1. Himmel being HIMmel, overcoming stupid prophecies and carving his own path to save the world. 2. Romanticizing heroes of the past and spinning your version of the story about them. Heiter didn't tell Fern this story because he didn't want to lie to her, and at the same time he didn't want to burden her with a truth that might put her in conflict with the rest of the world's version. 3. Stark blaming and being so tough on himself that he's convinced himself that everything was his fault, warping his own memories. 4. Soltz not caring about status and white capes. 5. Eisen's "everyone who works hard is a warrior" 6. Stark being loved and not realizing. The lip quiver at the end too. I'm surprised he managed to swallow being so emotional. Bonus: The Goddess set up Stark for failure, sending those obvious bait clouds while Fern was nearby.

2024-04-13 08:02:53 +0000 UTCI tried looking through previous comments and didn't see this, but if it was mentioned already, I apologize. The word this series uses for "demon" is not related in any way to the "demons" in, say, Demon Slayer. Tanjiro and company face things called oni (鬼), but Frieren and the others fight against "magical beasts" (魔物, ma-mono) or what they translate as "demons," which is 魔族, ma-zoku. The -mono is a suffix for animals, and the -zoku is normally for 'tribe' or 'group,' but basically it means a race of beings born of magic. In Japanese, the "ma-" part does mean magic, but it carries a very strong connotation of "evil." For example, the devil is "aku-ma" (悪魔), and if you look closely at the character for -ma, it contains the "oni" kanji inside it (魔 -> 鬼). So, I think it makes sense that Frieren talks about the 'demons' of her world as being almost the progenitors and source of higher knowledge of magic. I'm referring here to things like saying demons develop the magic and then humanity tries to break it down and understand it, etc. The word "mage" is literally "magic user," but even more broken down, it means "user of the rules/knowledge of 'ma' / demon-magic" (魔法使い, 'mahou-tsukai'). Anyway, no real "point" to this, sorry. I just wanted to share that context.

2024-04-13 03:11:41 +0000 UTCI mean, why try to pull the sword *after* the demon king has been defeated? The people of the era that they're living in believe that they are in a time of relative peace because the 'big bad' has been killed. So, either the prophecy was false, or the true biggest threat has yet to emerge, despite the sword now having rusted and faded, but in either case, if Stark does pull the sword out now, I don't see that as a happy outcome. [Just in case, I should preface this by saying I'm only 2 episodes ahead of Alex, so I don't know] I wonder if the demon that eliminated Stark's village will come back as a character. It seemed *almost* drawn in enough detail to recognize later, but maybe not.

2024-04-13 02:16:29 +0000 UTCI wanna say the pinecone was going to be used in potion making. Or, maybe there's a spell that disguises valuable items as pinecones. The pinecone could have been the extra potion in disguise

2024-04-13 02:14:36 +0000 UTCFern’s humor continues to be the best for me. 😂

2024-04-13 01:51:43 +0000 UTCClearly the pinecone is a souvenir from the great battle against the demon king. It was the pinecone that Himmel used to end the long struggle against the demons.

2024-04-13 01:49:56 +0000 UTCNow you have seen all the episodes so I can say that a "corrupt" priest, a "cowardly" warrior, a "disgraceful" mage, and a "fake" hero defeated the demon king. Just really solid writing.
Douglas Davis
2024-04-13 01:47:38 +0000 UTCI understand why every reactor wants Stark to pull the sword but, I know you know that it doesn't matter from your commentary. What is a hero? Starts with the "fake hero" who defeated the demon king, then the brother Stoltz who admired by the town for being the strongest loved his "weak" brother and sacrificed himself for him, and also there is the "coward" Stark who helps everyone he meets and saved a town. Just fantastic writing in my opinion. Also it shows Frieren buying the potion and Fern telling her to give it back in episode 3.

2024-04-13 01:26:27 +0000 UTCMy opinion is that Stark was just reflecting on the lesson of what it meant to be a hero, and not really contemplating trying to pull the sword.
