looking good once again. Great reaction, looking forward to more :D

Welcome to the darkest arc in HxH, it only gets darker from here, killing those kids is just the beginning HAHA

If you wanna read/watch a series that has passed on memories from previous generations it would probably be Dune. The main character goes through something like that.

Epigenetics is a new term to me, but it describes a sci-fi series I just read called Children of Time. It’s a great read, and you get to watch a genetically modified species evolve using epigenetics to the point where their society resembles humans, in very non human ways. It’s genuinely fascinating because it’s written through the eyes of the first of that species all the way to when they become space faring and then some. (I’m not naming what species it is because it’s kind of funny to realize it as you’re reading things from it’s point of view)

Sunny

Honestly I have had similar feelings about you talked about with epigenetics, but more with taught ideology. It kind of sucks that some experienced individual could achieve a high state of enlightenment and wisdom and try to share their ideology across the world, but the people who learn it that way can’t understand it deeply like the original person, that it’s very hard to appreciate the original lesson learned, with our brains just repackaging it in more ingestible ways.

Chris Sharpe

Yea but unfortunately I don’t think are brains could ever have that capacity. Evolution tends to just be really blunt with solutions. For example, rather than making us totally aware of long term social ramifications, it just creates embarrassment to cudgel us into the more benefitial actions.

Chris Sharpe

Something like epigenetics would definitely be interesting, but I could also see the benefits of not inheriting all of the information from your ancestors like stagnation in the development of new ideas between generations maybe? If you automatically know everything/most of what your parents know you might also loose the ability to think of things in different ways. Also like other commenters have referenced you would also inherit trauma or really negative experiences/ideals. Maybe I’m overthinking it though and the benefits would outweigh the hypothetical negatives.

We're in the endgame now. I've genuinely waited years for your reaction to this episode and it did not disappoint!

Sunny

The Steve Jobs comment took me out LOL

Sunny

Thanks! It's a really interesting field. I wonder what we'll find going forward. It seems too advantageous to not be a thing.

Your discussion at the end reminded me of this study - showing trauma being encoded in DNA and passed on in a single generation. https://news.emory.edu/stories/2013/12/smell_epigenetics_ressler/campus.html#

Interesting!

Very beginning of this reminded me, now that it's not a spoiler. It's indeed pronounced like the English "let's go fly a kite," and it's because the names of Ging and Kite come from the single word: ジンカイト, jinkaito, or in English, the crystal Zincite, which is a rare crystal form of zinc oxide famous for being used in early forms of crystal detectors and treasure hunting. 😀 So, finally that's where those names come from.

Ok let me explain. I .... Idk I found it hilarious. If I had to guess, I think I'm weary of the "brave little kid gets saved" thing. It was great in a very dark way to just see them torn to shreds by insects for once (I have half heartedly attempted to repent in the next episode)

Alex G

Two kids get eaten to death… and you’re laughing?? *insert Robert DeNiro meme *

These have become a highlight of my weeknights
