SmashCon & Lilian/Poppy Anim (Aug 2023 Update)

Hi Patrons!

Here's an update on Gilded activities this month so far.

Lilian & Poppy Animation Complete

Myself and a few team members took some time to work on a brand new Lilian short animation, featuring a new character: Poppy! (His younger sister). Poppy is a tiny tyke who adores bumblebees and wears too much masquera. She sees her big brother as the coolest person in the world, a sentiment that is acutely unreciprocated. The short takes place in Lilian's home, and involves the classic "toy-ownership" rivalry between siblings.

I'm quite happy with how the animation has come along, since it has full polish and fresh sound effects too. It will be releasing alongside the launch of the Lilian Makeship Plush on August 24th! I will post more details on it when it comes out.

Attended SSC

As a bit of side news, Rebonkulous and myself got to attend Super Smash Con this past weekend, mainly to visit the Stickfigurez booth, setup by Pluto and Hyun of Hyun's Dojo!

Stickfigurez is an upcoming platform fighter featuring popular and legendary stick figures from the web. I got to test-drive it during their weekend event, which allowed the public to try it out for the first time since development began. It runs very smoothly, and even though the characters were not 100% complete, the gameplay quickly heated up as we got more familiar with the controls. 

Hyun (right) said he was letting me win. Likely for the culture.

It was wonderful to be able to meetup with fellow stick animators and enthusiasts in person! I always find that the occasional IRL meetup is refreshing for art motivation.

Story 8 Progress

We are about 75% through Chapter 5 (of 7). I'm fairly confident we'll have all the animation for the chapter done in the next two weeks. As this is a fairly spoiler heavy segment of the project, I'll continue to post progress carefully. But I would say that the bulk of the "heavy", keyframe-dense workload has been finished, and the remaining scenes to do are stills and minimal shots.

The upcoming chapter will also be pretty spoilery, and will take a considerable chunk of time to finish. I'm still juggling the possibilities of streaming and spoiling Chapter 6 just to keep you all in the loop. I would like some of your feedback on this, which I may solicit through our Discord channels or a poll here on Patreon. So stay tuned for that!
