Fight Choreography, New Team Member & St7 Updates

This update contains no major story spoilers.

Hi Patrons,

Hope you all had a great October - the following will be a post about the current work and what's planned for November.

Random Idea

I'd like to start this update post with a little piece of concept art I made for a Gildedguy action-RPG I've been dreaming of making. I'm years away from even attempting such a game, but it's always fun to put your ideas on paper. Some day...some day...

Fantasy action game with Kingdom Hearts-like combat. Also similar to KH would be the idea of GG getting involved in little story arcs with other characters' worlds.

I'm improving my 3D gamedev skills with the stream overlay in preparation for such a project!

Story #7 Progress

The Story #7 animation is now in FIGHT MODE! The first 10 scenes of the fight animation (mostly consisting of Andre swinging his hammer) have been animated and partially cleaned up. The background art for the intro is progressing slowly - which is OK since we are able to barrel forward with character animation at the same time.

Hi KAP!

Contributing toward the sprint toward more animation is our newest team member: KAP!

KAP has been a friend of the channel and the livestream for many months now, and has offered his drawing skills towards the project - more specifically in the area of in-betweens and key animation. I hope to get the rest of the team on board with doing animation as well! Since a major theme of this animation is "change", there is a big opportunity to try some innovative (at least for me) approaches to animated productions. 

Maybe we'll tinker with going all out on movement and animation and less so on cleanliness and polish. The idea of allowing myself and the other artists to let loose and contribute pure, raw, draftsmanship to the animation excites me. Our full (and likely final) production team is now:

Aside from myself, everyone is working part-time on this, so allocation of budget is important. I hope to focus on the important parts of the story to get the most bang for our buck.

Pumpkin Contest Winners

Earlier this week we announced the winners of the Discord server's pumpkin carving contest. There were dozens of submissions, and the top three were selected by community mods lead by ShadowByName. Take a gander at the winning entries:

ShortNitemares

A small bit of cool news: Gildedguy returned to Fortnite for their Halloween event as an easter egg! Players were able to enter the ShortNitemares event to view 7 or so animated horror-shortfilms. But if you entered the restrooms, you could find a hidden Gildedguy portal that led you to a dark forest theater. Yes, they put me in a damn bathroom stall.

Color Palettes

Last night on stream I made some big decisions on the color palettes for Story 7, which really helps set the tonal direction. Something I want to re-introduce are the drastic hue shifts from Gildedguy vs Bog. Everything about this animation is pointing towards a push-pull between grounded animation and stylistic rendering.

Focus for November

As mentioned before, we're gonna focus on getting as many raw frames of animation done, hopefully progressing through the ever exciting "Chorus 1" portion of the fight. The background art, polish, and scoring can come later. Although my animations are usually fluid, in order to stick to the "wind vs rock" theme, even more priority will be assigned to the movement.
