“Temple” is such a fitting word for my body. There was a time it was ready to receive worship-- be treated with awe and reverence. My temple started as an immaculate thing. So immaculate in fact, I can only imagine the first to enter it assumed he was invited and welcomed. It’s an assumption that was made too many times by too many people. Whatever worship they thought to have performed was little more than a desecration. Some have found missing pieces and tried their very best to put them back where they belong. I’ve done my own work to rebuild--practice my own rituals and worship in a way that benefits me--but with the aching knowledge that my temple will never be what it once was.
