A hot minute!

Hey all! It's been a hot minute hasn't it? To be honest I've been too annoyed(to put it mildly) to write an update and NOT have that mood bleed into an update it so I kept postponing it and then it suddenly already was the 22nd! Damn!

To keep it simple, every day there was another problem to deal with and it felt a lot like I was participating in the Olympics of "and today you're going to have to deal with this first before being able to do anything else." Weird power failings, electricians not having time to come over and see what the hell was wrong, internet constantly playing hide and seek which isn't so great when you need to update stuff because your pc was kicking you back to the login screen(and taking all your progress so far with it).

Though I will say the house did NOT literally burn down(old wiring) for which I'm really happy. I'm not being hyperbolic, I got damn lucky there.

Pretty much all of that is fixed again, but it wasn't a speedy process!

Oh and then there's my left hand... yes that's right the mouse saga continues! Lots of blahblah below.

If you've been with MITY for a while now you'll now my left hand is made out of the most ethereal of materials and more fragile than glass... well not really, but I've just been using it a lot in generally the same "claw" position every day.

I have three mice, all very differently shaped which I cycle through during the day to prevent problems, but apparently not different enough because my hand has been acting up again worse than ever before the last weeks How bad is it? I kinda don't wanna tell, but my hand basically tends to "lock up" and I really need to start making some bigger changes than I've done so far.

Some more breaks in between, but also new and very differently shaped mice. In fact they need to be different enough for them to hardly be able to be recognized as mice!

So the first thing I tried was getting a trackball. That's pretty damn different and though I've been told to get one before by at least a few of you long ago I was always hesitant to do so. I got myself a Kensington orbit and I absolutely love its scroll wheel . It's big, has hardly and friction and though the trackball is slower and not as accurate as a normal mouse I could work with it (a looot slower). The buttons however were badly positioned for me and a real problem. I had to give it a good few days to try and get used to it, but it isn't the (only)solution I was looking for.

Next option! My right hand has no problems, the one which I use to draw with, so maybe a pen based solution could work? It's what I'm currently using and I prefer it over the trackball but the friction of the scrollwheel and the pressure needed to click its buttons is a lot higher than I'd like. And of course I still have to get used to holding it. I'm only a lefty when it comes to mice (not writing) so it still feels very unnatural.

After discovering the pen mouse might still not be the best solution either I got fed up and have ordered a couple of alternatives at once. I ordered a touchpad(I never knew those could also be used to scroll which is why I've been neglecting those as an option), an arced mouse with a touch sensitive "scrollwheel" and an old fashioned metal scrolling wheel which I'll put into one of my current three mice. More mass, more momentum and thus less manually scrolling needed... is the idea behind it.

I'm still waiting for those to arrive. I might also get another kensington trackball solution. Hell, I'll even try the weird sextoy mouse if that'll work, but not just yet. I did also ordered another mini mouse which can be used both horizontally and vertically.

Now all of this has been seriously taken its toll on the speed at which I work. It's a large part of why I've been in a bad mood for the last weeks. I've been consciously refraining from using my left hand nearly as much as I'm used to during my work on FET and that feels a lot like tying your shoelace with just one hand.

So the most important question for me and most of you is: what does that mean for the new FET build? Honestly, I'm not certain yet. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm going to be spilling over in September again and this was supposed to be the month where I'd pull things straight again. I finished the minimum amount of main scenes I wanted to have done(way later than normal) and I'm currently tying things together, but it's hard to gauge how long all of that will take me and whether I'll judge that to be good enough for a build.

As always, I'll try my best and I'll let you know where things stand in (I think) a week or earlier. I'm still hoping I might have a build ready this month. Perhaps a smaller one but I'll have to see how things go during the upcoming week.

So yeah I'm going to get this thing sorted out but you'll have to wait a little longer to hear exactly how(soon).

So do I not have any nice news? Well... when I ordered the kensington I came upon so called lcd writing tablets. Basically something what I've been looking for for a very long time! it's like a low powered simple scratch board which is great for just doodling and warmup sketches. I'll show and talk a bit more about it in a future update.

tldr: had some hurdles, most have been cleared, but at the cost of me being a slow/reclusive boy!

U rock keep up the beautiful work you are doing πŸ₯°πŸ’—πŸ«ΆπŸΌπŸ’˜ I love ur work

NatureOfLove86

Wow that not a sex toy mouse. But seriously good luck with the mouse hunting / hand hurting. If you do find the right device, buy a few more. Can't think of all the times I get something (whatever purpose) that is right and when it wears out I go to get another and they don't make them any more. Sometimes it is even just 6 months later I decide to get a spare and nope, no where to be found.

Deonast

I don't know if it has anything to do with the recent community guidelines thing, but for some reason the links to download FET are taken down

Welcome back it’s great to see you didn’t lose your account

steven tims

Have you thought about making a Harry Potter game?

Jacob Harris

you should ofcause make surden that you are in good health with your body though i cant help but wonder with the problems i could read about you having if you have a rough ETA for the next FET build

as someone who has been gaming with a trackball for all my life, there is not much to choose from, Logitech MX ergo is the most solid and natural for work and what i have come to use for everything nowadays. Elecom HUGE is surprisingly comfy but plastic as hell. Kensington is not as ergonomic but reasonable price, If you want FPS accuracy above all the good old logitech N231 is your go to, but you loose the scroll. slim pickings. ive tried quite a few over the years. MX ergo also comes with 2 channel Bluetooth so you can link it to 2 different devices and quickly switch

Love your transparency. Please take care of yourself and take all the time you need.

Jupiter13

I personally use mx ergo, but that is alas for right handed users. Maybe elecom ex-g?

Sorry to hear things have been so chaotic Mity. Regarding the hand at least... I feel like someone needs to force you to take a break from work sometimes. If not for the mental well being, it is clearly taxing your physical health. Maybe an end of September build? If you won't do it for your health, (which seems likely given your track record) a late-September build would allow you to put more in the build too. So win-win. Take your time, exercise that hand, bit of extra content, and we get a nice present at the end of the month.

Sean

Health's always a number one priority, man. Mental and Physical. Had to remind myself of that and took some extra days off this week. You guys oughta do the same. Work is always good, know you wanna stick to a schedule, but time marches on and everyone's getting older. Treat yourself a bit gentler.

If you aren't already, look into hand/wrist stretches for gaming. Hand pain from similar positions and actions is huge for fighting game players, and a minute or two stretching an hour goes a really long way.

Nothing but respect for you dude - even when you have tons going on and you’re slightly behind your own deadlines, which are tighter than MANY creators set for themselves, you’re easily one of the most transparent and communicative creators whose work I’ve enjoyed. Do what you need to do, and just keep on keeping on! Your fans are here for it!

Pat

Your adoring public will definitely still be here regardless of duration between updates. Take care of yourself first, without you the games we enjoy wouldn't even exist, so you've already way more than earned some 'taking it easy' time

Akylas

Take your time! Go slow as you need to work or take a long break if you need to. I support ya!

EchoTheWorld

You should definitely make a sketch of one of the girls riding the "not a sextoy" mouse xD

Kronos992

As far as I'm concerned, go at your own pace. Happy creators create better content. Take care of yourself ma dude.
