Halloween comic - how it could've been. And a clip file
Added 2019-11-06 15:39:45 +0000 UTCWell, it took 6 hours, but the comic was posted on twitter on Halloween and the response has been overwhelmingly positive! I'm happy that people enjoyed it. It makes the time spent feel worth it.
So, as an extra treat, I'm throwing a clip file up here for those curious on how I went about doing it. You will need clip studio paint to open it and I only could upload one of them.
What else can I say about it? Well, the idea has been stewing in my brain for a while. Probably at least a year or two? And it went through a bit of an evolution. The general urbex premise did stay the same, however the ending and "threat" were different.
At first I wanted to do another spooky ghost. It would've probably been the ghost of a student that passed away in a freak accident of some kind, possibly having a strong acid splashed in their face during a chemistry lesson? sounds lame, I know. The duo would stumble about in the darkness and would be more freaked out by random noises and unsure sightings rather than spooky graffiti. With the zeeb son seemingly coming face to face with it during the ordeal. (In a sequence similar to the close up to his face in the final version).
However, adding yet another ghost to my collection felt kinda repetitive at this point, so I decided to make something a bit different. I tried making everything as grounded and ambiguous as possible. The threat would be more vague and left to the viewers interpretation. And the central theme became graffiti. I had some pretty ambitious ideas with that as well, which didn't come to fruition. They would have encountered progressively more surreal and threatening graffiti, some depicting eldrich beings, some impossibly big, with the rabbit playing a much larger role, behaving as a seemingly sentient entity. The psychological horror angle would have been more pronounced. Zebra son would have been progressively more freaked out, which would lead to them separating in the darkness, with zeeb son being drawn to the rabbit. I kinda regret not including some of the scenes I envisioned.
But yeah, that was obviously a bit too ambitious, so I cut it down drastically till it ended up being fairly simple and straightforward. Something that could realistically happen to someone. And I guess that worked!
