I'm bad at planning

At least, sometimes.

Often...

...okay all the time.

So, you may have noticed that last post on the WIP Predator in the Wilderness looks a tad incomplete in its background. Reason for that is, I basically planned it wrong.

I learned a lesson from chapter 1, which had several shots which had different perspectives to them. Being macro/micro, Liliandra is immensely tall so any time you'd look at her from the ground, or even if you were on her somewhere, you'd be looking into the sky basically. For that reason, the original background image I'd drawn and spent a lot of time on kinda got wasted, since it was mostly only visible in the first couple images. I'd also not planned it properly, so when we look up at her, there wasn't much to see in the sky beyond blue, some clouds and snow.

So with Chapter 2 it was an opportunity to expand a lot more. I went with an ice cave as a natural extension of where we'd been previously. Being a polar bear it seemed natural Liliandra would live in a cave of sorts, but being intelligent and a rescue worker, she'd have some 'creature comforts,' hence the shelving unit with a kettle, cooker, drawers and fancy tea cups.

The background was design with the ability to pan up and down. I designed a huge amount of ceiling, so when it came time to have a worm's eye view of the giant ladies, it wouldn't take way too long between images.

So here we are... way too long between images. Why?

Basically, I didn't do enough. Worse than that though, I don't feel I did a great job with the dynamics of the background. Some of the stuff in the foreground like the purple bed and cupboard worked out fine thus far, but I really feel the backdrop needed parallaxing in retrospect. The expansive cave structure visible in Ch2 P1 was nice then, but when you look up it should make sense. Also, I didn't draw enough ceiling, so that has been taking up a lot of time just trying to expand it, and blend the new elements with the previous bits.

TL;DR I basically didn't draw enough stuff before so now it's taking twice (or more) as much time as it should trying to fix it and blend stuff.

Still I've made good progress. The new art's nearly done so I mostly just need to render the characters' shading and it'll be all good. I hope it'll be out by the 30th!

Kindest regards,
-Daniel
