Relaunching my monthly Patreon with new tiers!
Added 2021-11-04 19:03:28 +0000 UTCHi all! As per a recent community poll, I have decided to re-launch my monthly Patreon page.
Why the relaunch? When I first launched my Patreon in 2018, I was making devlog videos about once a month. The goal of my Patreon was to directly fund monthly episodes. In 2018 I had enough progress by the end of each month to make a video. However, now as I am entering alpha, it can take up to 6+ months of work to have something worth making an episode on for the world to see.
I have enjoyed sharing this journey with people. While I haven't had a monthly Patreon for most of this year, I still make progress on the game every month. Sometimes the progress is fast and immediate, worthy of making a video on, and sometimes the progress is the slow kind that pays off in the long term (like the new build I'm about to release). A few months ago, I decided to make videos quarterly instead of monthly, and I launched a new Patreon page charging on a per-creation basis. The goal for this page, like this one, was to fund new devlog episodes. However, I feel it was unfair on me to fund these new episodes on a per-creation basis, as these quarterly episodes took much more time and effort to produce than the monthly ones, and I would not receive my Patreon funding until episodes were published. My community also felt it strange that they would only get to support my episode upon its publication, and not be able to support me through the months of work it took to make the episode to begin with.
I learned that it wasn't my videos my community wanted to support. They wanted to support the journey.
So, I've re-launched my monthly Patreon for those who wish to support me to continue doing what I do. With a monthly system, I won't be able to make monthly videos, but that doesn't mean I can't share my journey. By supporting me on Patreon, I can afford to dedicate more of my time into sharing a comprehensive look into my journey as an indie game developer, through devlog videos, patron-only posts, exclusive merch, and a private Discord community.
I've also had to update the URLs, so here's the official link to my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/raymondcripps.
