Closing my Patreon Page (For Now)
Added 2021-01-31 01:24:23 +0000 UTCHello Patrons!
I announced in October that I would be taking a break from Project Feline, however I continued to make incremental improvements to the game, collating them in a new build near the middle of December. At the time of this post, that was the last anyone had heard from me.
Throughout January, a lot of big changes have been happening behind the scenes, and it is with a heavy heart that I have decided to sunset the Project Feline Devlog Series.
That does not mean Project Feline will be dissapearing! On the contrary, I continue to work on the game every weekday and I do plan to launch a new YouTube series chronicling the development journey! It will be some few months before this new series launches and the episodes will not be as frequent, but each episode will be longer and engineered to hit much harder than any devlog episode could!
Why the new series, and what does this mean for me as a Patron?
During my time off in November, I learned that it wasn't a break that I needed, but a narrower focus. Since 2018, I have had two jobs to perform. I've had the job of an indie game developer, working solo on Project Feline's code and assets, and I've had the job of a YouTuber, scripting, recording, editing and publishing entertaining and educational videos on a monthly basis.
Both of these jobs require vastly different skills to perform, and I can say that I've definitely pushed myself further than I thought possible working on every part of the game on my own, and still being entertaining enough for my videos to be viewed over 3 million times. While it has been fun pulling this off, it has taken it’s toll. As the demands of Project Feline accrue, I do not believe that continuing to pump out monthly videos will be sustainable over the long term.
Through the support of my Patrons, I've been fortunate to document my journey as regularly as I have been and I am ever grateful for the community support! However, the game comes first, and devloping a game demands certain sacrifices to be made. I have come to the decision that spending less of my energy talking about the game and more energy working on the game will lead to a better product that I would be able to ship much sooner.
That being the case, I will no longer be publishing monthly videos and thus concluding the Devlog series as we know it. My new series is estimated to launch sometime in June, with episodes releasing every 3 months!
Until such a time where more details are available, I will be unlaunching my Patreon page on March 1st. The February billing cycle has been paused to allow time for annual pledgers to request a refund. After I unlaunch my page, all of my posts will be unavailable, so Top-Tier supporters will have one last chance throughout February to browse through exclusive posts.
I will post a reminder near the closing days of February.
Until then, thank you all so much for supporting me through this journey! I have been so fortunate to have a community as supportive and encouraging as you, and I hope that this change will allow me to better continue to serve you in producing a quality game experience.
See you in a while!

Thanks Meciej, I appreciate the kind gesture! My Patreon was made to support my devlog videos, none of my Patreon funds go towards the game itself. As much as I would like to accept monthly donations for developing the game, I don't believe it would be appropriate as I would not have much to offer in return on a monthly basis. I am currently exploring other means of fundraising for the game, however this will take many more months of research and preparation. I would like to re-launch my Patreon when my new Dev Diary series launches, charging on a per-creation basis instead of monthly as I plan to release videos every three months. However, this may involve re-launching the page or creating a new one to allow my page to be eligible for per-creation charging. In the meantime, if you would like to continue supporting me I can offer you merch in return! Check out https://projectfeline.com/shop
2021-02-08 00:47:39 +0000 UTCI came for the cell shading tutorial, but stayed for the one-eared catgirl. =) But seriously, I would still happily support the development of Project Feline up to say $10 a month, even if there wasn't such a polished monthly DevLog. Of course it's your call - you do you.
