English loanwords have become part of modern Korean/Japanese. Yet, when playing games like this, they still count as foreign words, e.g.: Cushion (kʊ·ʃən) = 쿠션 (kusyeon) in Korean, クッション (kushon) in Japanese; Manager (mæ·nɪ·dʒə) = 매니저 (ma-ni-jeo), マネージャー (manējā) PS: I used IPA to show English pronunciation (British). English speakers get confused because sometimes these loanwords sound only vaguely like English. This is similar to the word "tea," which comes from the Chinese "tay"; or "beef," which sounds quite different from its French origin "bœuf." As pronunciations transform over time, many English speakers don't realise they're using loanwords. Imagine playing a game that bans you from using any French loanwords such as beef (bœuf), art (art), or music (musique)—words you can identify as French if you know the language. However, most people don't recognise these as "imported" words despite using them daily. Direct French loanwords make up over 20% of the English lexicon (not to mention suffixes and derivatives). Similarly, English loanwords comprise 20–30% of modern Korean vocabulary, which explains why k-idols struggle with the game. PS: I really enjoy watching your reaction to Itzy content. Some of the last episodes of IT'ZZZ S2 were fun. No rush, but I look forward to your reaction to the remaining episodes of IT'ZZZ S2. :)

2025-07-29 12:50:42 +0000 UTCI'm pretty sure anytime any group does a no-English game it automatically sounds weird cause they're being very choosey of their words and the structuring of their sentence and using Korean words for things they don't usually use since English words are ingrained into their sentences now. I've felt this with Earth Arcade, IVE, ITZY and I think Le Sserafim? Or Twice have done it too.
