Complete headcanon but I always thought Tiffany would be natural to choose regardless of the family history. They might have already given her a nickname. Phanie for Stephanie and Fany for Tiffany sound exactly the same.

All though it's fun that the 2 of them are the same age with the same name and have stage names. also Sunny's actual English name or at least the one she was given at birth was Susan

Tiffany is her stage name because at that time CSJH The Grace which was their sunbae group in SM, there was already a member named Stephanie. Tiffany chose Tiffany as her stage name because her mom originally wanted to name her Tiffany. Tiffany's mom passed away when she was a young teenager so the name Tiffany was like an homage to her mom. Fun fact, when Tiffany debuted in the US her official name was Tiffany Young to combine her history in Korea and SNSD as Tiffany and Young for her middle name but also her korean name mi-young. She wanted to represent both her past and present identities in this new chapter of her career so Tiffany Young was born. Hope that helped :)
