Raven 06: "Command, I've reached the location. There’s a high concentration of enemy forces in the area."
She was laying between bushes, watching an huge enemy complex working in the woods, away from public view, patrols going back an forth around it. For a moment, the earpiece goes silent before a faint beep signals a response.
Command: "Affirmative, Raven 06. We’re sending satellite scans to your device now, but be advised—static interference is clouding our view. According to intel from our infiltrated contact, there’s a room in the lower levels of the building housing biological experiments. The enemy plans to deploy it on the battlefield, its use and effect still unknown to us. Your mission is to proceed with caution, gather intel on their operations, and extract. This is not a life-or-death mission—if the situation escalates, you are authorized to retreat. Do you copy?"
Raven 06: "Understood, Command. Moving in now."
Raven crouched low, slipping through the shadows cast by flickering overhead lights. The hum of distant machinery filled the air, occasionally drowned out by muffled conversations from enemy patrols.
Raven 06 (muttering): "Secret enemy operations, with that amount of personell could’ve just called it a party."
She pressed herself against a wall, her gloved hand resting lightly on her gun. Two guards walked past, their voices indistinct but their weapons ready. She waited, counting the seconds as they disappeared around a corner.
Raven 06 (grinning): "They hire anyone these days tsc tsc tsc"
Moving swiftly, she darted into an adjacent corridor, her boots making no sound on the tiled floor. The air was colder here, and the faint buzz of electricity tickled her ears. Her visor highlighted a sealed elevator door at the end of the hall, the words "AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY" glowing faintly in red.
She reached into her belt pouch and pulled out a small hacking device, attaching it to the door’s control panel. Sparks flickered, and the screen blinked a few times as the device worked.
The lock clicked open. She stepped inside quickly, letting the door slide shut behind her. As The elevator descended the atmosphere changed, the lower it got the colder It was. As The elevator doors clicked open the cold freezer entered It, making Raven shiver slightly. Proceeding through the halls of the underground facility Raven reached a room which was dimly lit, the air heavy with the smell of...oranges? Equipment lined the walls—monitors, strange mechanical parts, and glowing orange canisters pulsing faintly like heartbeats.
Raven 06: "Well, this is… unsettling, i think i infiltrated a juice stand. What are you cooking down here?"
She moved cautiously, her eyes scanning the room. In the center stood a large console, its screen displaying incomprehensible data and schematics. Raven tapped the side of her visor, capturing images and sending them back to Command.
Raven 06: "Command, I’ve found something. Uploading visuals now. Whatever this is, it doesn’t look like normal weaponary, it smells...good tho? There's a constant scent of oranges in the air."
She started messing with the console, trying to gather some info amidst that massive amount of data.
Raven 06: "Project Orange, ha ha what an original name for something that is orange and smell like oranges, hmmm whats that? "Subjects appear to have an absurd increase in hunger, dangerous results on women still to be analyzed" if the best of a "super soldier" serum they can get is give me munchies, i swear we can win the battle with untrained citizens. She said as she giggled lovely at the screen. "Eject canisters, yez, exactly what i needed."
A faint sound behind her made her freeze. The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end as she reached for her sidearm.
Raven 06’s eyes darted toward the glowing orange canisters lining the far wall. Carefully, she unlatched one from its holder, the faint hum of the vial vibrating in her hand. The liquid inside pulsed with an eerie light, unlike anything she’d ever seen before.
Raven 06 (muttering): "You’re coming with me, glowstick."
She tucked the vial securely into a padded compartment on her belt. Just as she turned back toward the door, the sound of boots echoed down the hallway, growing louder with each step.
Guard 1 (outside): "Check the lab. Something tripped the lock override."
Guard 2: "If it’s another rat, I’m not cleaning it up again."
Raven cursed under her breath, scanning the room quickly. No exits, no cover—just walls of glowing tech and a console too bulky to hide behind. Her eyes flicked upward, spotting a lattice of support beams crisscrossing the ceiling. Without hesitation, she jumped, her gloves gripping the cold metal as she hoisted herself up silently.
The door hissed open, and two guards stepped inside. Their flashlights cut through the room, sweeping over the equipment and casting long shadows across the room.
Guard 1: "Looks clear."
Guard 2: "Doesn’t feel clear. Check the canisters—make sure nothing’s missing."
Raven held her breath, her body pressed against the beam. One hand rested on her sidearm, but she knew better than to use it now. The faint hum of the canisters seemed deafening in the tense silence.
The guards moved closer to the center of the room, their flashlights dancing dangerously near her hiding spot. One of them leaned over the console, tapping a few keys. A low beep echoed as the screen blinked to life.
Guard 1: "Console’s been accessed. Someone’s been here."
Guard 2 (gritting teeth): "Check everything. No one leaves this place alive if something’s gone."
Raven smirked faintly, despite the tension. Her cockiness was quickly tempered as one guard’s flashlight began to trace upward, catching the edges of the support beams.
She shifted slightly, her boot slipping just a fraction against the beam. The faint scrape was enough to make one guard stop and look up sharply.
Guard 1: "Wait. Did you hear that?"
The second guard swung his flashlight toward the ceiling, the beam just missing her. Raven pressed herself tighter against the beam, her heart pounding in her ears. One wrong move, and this mission would turn into a firefight.
Guard 2: "Must have been the wind, but keep your eyes up. Whoever was here can’t have gone far."
They lingered for a moment before moving toward the door, one guard keeping his flashlight trained on the ceiling for a few more seconds. Then, with a curt nod to each other, they stepped back out into the hallway.
The door hissed shut. Silence returned, broken only by the faint hum of the canisters. Raven exhaled quietly, still motionless, waiting to ensure they were truly gone.
The heavy boots of the guards faded into the hallway, but the silence was short-lived. A sharp voice cut through the air—frustrated, urgent.
Scientist (outside, yelling): "Stop! Stop right there! There’s been a change in the stock!"
The guards hesitated. One of them turned back toward the scientist, their tone impatient.
Guard 1: "What are you talking about?"
Scientist: "One of the vials—it's missing!"
A brief, tense pause. Then—
Guard 2: "Impossible. We just checked the room."
Scientist (angrily): "Then check again! If that compound is outside containment, we have a breach! Do you even understand what we’re dealing with?"
A metallic alarm blared through the facility, echoing down the halls. The ceiling lights switched to a deep red glow, pulsing in warning. A mechanical voice droned over the intercom:
Facility AI: "Security lockdown engaged. All personnel remain in designated safe zones. Containment protocol initiating."
Below Raven, the floor vibrated as heavy mechanisms roared to life. The canisters lining the walls hissed, their metal casings retracting into the floor. One by one, they vanished into reinforced compartments beneath her, a thick steel barrier sealing them away.
All except the one she had taken.
Still pressed against the ceiling beams, Raven watched as the last vault door slammed shut with a final, echoing clang. The room, once filled with a strange hum of energy, now felt eerily still. A single canister remained in play—the one secured on her belt.
Outside, hurried footsteps signaled the guards’ return. Weapons were being readied, safeties clicking off.
Guard 1: "Alright. Someone’s in there. Seal the exits. No one gets out until we find them."
The doors hissed again, this time locking into place with reinforced bolts. A red light above the entry blinked steadily—she was now trapped inside.
