Sunday piano meditation - no. 33

Hi there! Guess what, today I have a (belated) piano improvisation for you! And I'm actually sitting again in my home in Vienna, yesterday's trip was a wild one... But I made it in the end. :)

For the ones who haven't heard of it - big parts of Austria are either flooded or under heavy snowfalls, the last week here was crazy, many people have lost their homes, villages had to be evacuated, some people died... It's quite shocking and never happened like this before. Vienna is mostly okay - but also here the rivers completely changed, the Wienfluss turned into a huge huge waterfront, the Donaukanal totally went over its walls and filled up the whole channel til the edges, the Danube right now is massive - there were just too many storms and too much rain at once.

Because of that there are still no trains going to Vienna, so I was stuck in Linz yesterday - but luckily could join an afghan elderly man who was asking me for translations earlier, his son came all the way to Linz to pick him up and brought us (plus another random, but super sweet guy from Leipzig ^^) to Vienna. Super kind, I'm so happy and thankful when people can help eachother out.

I am already leaving again tomorrow super early to join my partner in Portugal, we're gonna shoot some content for another music project there and then stay a little longer to have some belated holidays. Even though the whole area is struggling with big wildfires right now... This climate crisis is getting real - I don't mean to scare you, but all of this really gets me to be honest. I grew up in a very sustainably aware family, especially my mother makes everything possible herself, every piece gets repaired until it really falls apart, we're always going everywhere by bike or train, eat organic food or grow veggies in the garden... Sustainability has always been a present topic in my life. And some people still don't understand HOW important green politics are, HOW urgent it is to pay attention what we, as humans, do and decide these days. Especially now that we're facing those nature catastrophes in Europe right now - people really need to think about for whom they vote in the next elections... In Austria they're in the end of September and I hope soooo much, that the results will be better than last time.

But enough of these heavy news and back to the piano piece - I had the chance to play a little bit on my old piano in Berlin, on Sunday morning before I went to the market of my mum. I played not more and not less, but exactly what you can hear on the recording, then I had to leave. So basically - this is how it sounds when I don't play piano for a week and then touch some keys for the first time again. Each time its quite a magical scenery, especially when it's in the morning... Everytime I play on that instrument I feel how old it actually is (from 1898!) and for how long I play on it already. Really miss this feeling sometimes here in Vienna, it's just different.

The improvisation is in a very plain and simple A minor, a good key. This time with a little dorian twist in between. ;) Hope you enjoy!

Stay safe & take care!

xx
