2023-12-21 18:40:32 +0000 UTCIn Junior High, one of our classmates, Anne Dwyer, had her dad come in to talk about being taken prisoner during the Ardennes offensive. He was saying how he got up on his birthday, Dec. 16th, looked out the window of the farmhouse he was staying at, and saw nothing but Germans coming up the hill. He assured us being a German pow was nothing like Hogan's Heroes. Then I was reading the Malmedy article from today and though "lucky her dad was at a different part of the front, otherwise, no Anne." And that made me really angry to think that if her dad had been taken prisoner by a different bunch of Germans, he could've been killed and she'd have never been. And how any time you read any article about SS War Crimes werhaboos always try and make excuses for them. Pisses me off.
