NEWS TO ME
Added 2023-05-05 14:35:31 +0000 UTCWoah, it is my first post here! How wild, this is something I have been wanting to do for such a long time, and it may take me a sec to get the feel for this! But I appreciate everyone who comes along for the ride! I will be using this platform to post my art without the fear of censoring. A place where my art can be viewed and loved without having to hold back!

So here we go, my first project was "news to me" and building this set was a bit of a doozy, I had a newborn strapped to my chest and I was very much so still postpartum, but I NEEDED to create so I did! I used my standard backdrop set to create this, with several newspapers. I did edit/place papers to avoid faces since it is a local paper haha. Didn't want someones Grandma Gert to show up in the background of a booty shot.
I used clear tape to connect all the papers and about had a fit several times, I almost ripped the whole thing apart 5 times, but Salem came in clutch with nursing breaks which also gave me a moment to breathe and study the set. When building sets I have a vision in my head and I create a step-by-step road map to achieve said look. Sometimes, I have to take detours, or my destination isn't quite what I expected. But I never use a set I am not happy with, ever. As many of you have seen, I pour HOURS into my set building, and I will start over if needed. And this set was no different. So finally after several hours (never expected it to take that long) I was satisfied!
Finally, it was shoot day! My model arrived and like always we chatted a bit, I make sure to keep conversations flowing because for one, I LOVE to chat and secondly, It just helps clients feel comfortable, we do not need any awkward silences! I have honestly never met a client that did not instantly feel like a friend. Photoshoots are almost like a therapy session for a lot of my clients, we get to talk about their recent troubles, how they're feeling about themselves, and anything that has been heavy on their hearts. For a lot of my clients, I have known them for years, and we have walked through several phases of life! I am honestly so honored to work with and build relationships with all of them!
Now I will admit, I was a little lost with how I wanted the flow of this session to go, it was my first "challenge" since having my baby and it was not just a standard boudoir, this shoot was not something I could just default to and follow a posing flow. It would take brain power and creativity! It was also overcast on this day and I really prefer to use natural light in my studio. Flash just takes away the depth I needed for this session. So I bumped up my ISO, dropped my Fstop, and remained as close to the window as possible when shooting! In a later post, I will include some behind-the-scenes and maybe some editing videos! As I said, this is my first go at it, and we are gonna get a rhythm! I pinky promise, just stick around! I will have a lot of extra content as I get my flow! Anyways, this was my model's first shoot with me, so for the first half of the session, we were getting to know each other, I was learning her angels and her comfort levels for posing! A few years ago this was something that could take me almost the entire shoot, and I would just pray I had enough shots to complete an album, but now I can have this figured out within five minutes, max ten! And I can confidently over-deliver albums with ease. Even when shooting mini sessions I no longer feel stressed to get my image count, once you've been doing this long enough it just becomes second nature. I can look at a model from the moment they enter my studio, or arrive at a set location and instantly have 5 poses I know they will rock. It is kind of like I mentioned above, I create road maps in my mind, poses included! And each model brings a different vibe so we end up with several beautiful destinations!
By the end of the session, I was incredibly excited to get to my computer and edit, my model was a rockstar and even though she had never done anything like this, she posed and modeled with ease.
The editing process was fun, I got to play with new lighting techniques and explore more than I would have with a standard session. Which actually lead me to an editing style for this corner of the studio that I am obsessed with! So it was a mega win in all possible ways!
I really hope you all enjoyed this peek into my world and I plan to continue giving these "behind the scenes" brain blurbs but also add more videos and whatnot to go along!
