Dobsonflies are large, intimidating flying insects that often freak people the heck out, especially the males, who have incredibly long, tweezer-like mandibles.
The male's mandibles, however, are much too weak to cause any harm, used only to attract females and gently hold them during mating. The females, on the other hand, have more blunt, jagged jaws and can bite pretty hard.
Both sexes are fairly clumsy and fragile, though, which is why the Arthropoid version never caught on as a battlemonster.
