SECRET Mortasheen sketches!

I dunno what happened, but suddenly everything I doodled started looking exactly the way I wanted it to turn out. I was IN THE ZONE I guess. Anyone want one of these for this month's monster, or the alien invaders from earlier? The upper right monster is an idea I've kicked around for years; the tiny shrimpy thing attached to it is the real monster, of course, while the rest is just an oversized tumor that protects it! The little guy may be able to convert a fresh victim into a tumor-golem if it needs a new one. Bottom two are vampire minions; a sponge that takes over human corpses, and a mass of barnacles that's gonna look like a Barbaracle ripoff even though I've had the idea for a good six or seven years. Working name is BARNACLOPS. The little thing in the upper left is based on a barnacle larva, meanwhile. I might rework its design to be a little more uncanny and make it a barnacle arthropoid that injects its cells into a host, like Sacculina.

I was about to suggest "Barnacules" as in Hercules as a name, but it's already the online moniker of someone, so maybe: Barnacolossus!

I think they're all cool, but I think I want to see more of these cute lil' enigmatic aliens. =)

The best thing, of course, is to add a third arm. And yeah, I do the same with Nepenthes. So go indulge yourself, you already have like half-a-dozen Diptera fusions, so we know your biases :)

Hisham Hasan

I could, but I like the "normal" skeletal hand contrasting the other arm (and showing that there's something almost humanoid underneath!) I keep coming up with more barnacle monsters though. Too many. Serpents of barnacles. Whale-like leviathans of barnacles. Floating beholder-like barnacle orbs. I can't stop.

You know, regarding the Barnaclops, why not go all the way and make each finger of its left hand a stalked goose barnacle?

Hisham Hasan

I feel you. Draghinazzo has like the worst art images ever, I spent a long time on youtube just trying to figure out its anatomy. Your best bet might be to either sketch your own picture, or ask permission and do a couple of screen caps.

Hisham Hasan

Yeah, encountering Draghinazzo is actually what lead me to finally think I better get my barnacle guy out there while we're still having this big barnacle guy party in our popular culture (all two of them this decade) I wish I could find clear images of the bastard for a review, his two weird heads are beautiful. There was ALSO this wonderful barnacle guy in Devilman: http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/devilman/images/f/f8/Barn.png/revision/latest?cb=20140328232208

Barnaclops and tumorshrimp are great.

Siad

I love all of these.

My favorites are the Tumorshrimp and the Barnaclops. I especially approve of the different barnacles making up the colony (acorn, whale, and goose), and the big one acting as an arm. But actually you shouldn't worry about it being called a Barbaracle ripoff. You should worry that people will call it a Draghinazzo ripoff (the bryozoan boss from Resident Evil Revelations 1). Maybe you can make the barnacle larvae and the Tumorshrimp related; maybe Tumorshrimp is actually a rhizocephalan.

Hisham Hasan

I quite like the barnacle monster already, but I'm just as curious for the invaders mentioned earlier, as I'd like to see more of the periphery of the setting. :)
