Very Rare, Shield, Requires Attunement
Glowing with spectral light and fashioned like an oversized pumpkin painted with a grim yet whimsical visage, this shield is easily mistaken for festival decor.
While you have this shield equipped and are attuned to it, you gain access to the following properties:
Shield +2. While holding this shield, you have a +1 bonus to AC. This bonus is in addition to the shield's normal bonus to AC. Shields require the Utilize Action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
Light (Action - At Will). The Gourd Guard produces a soft amber light, providing Bright Light for up to 20 ft., and Dim Light for up to an additional 20 ft. This light may be dimmed or suppressed at any time during your turn.
Animate (Action - At Will). You speak the shield’s command word, allowing the shield to become Animated as vine-like appendages sprout from beneath it, allowing it to stand on its own without needing to hold it. The shield also grows in size, becoming a Medium Sized Plant with 40 Hit Points, 15 AC, and shares your Saving Throws. The shield grants additional properties while Animated. If the shield’s Hit Points are lowered to 0, or if you spend an Action to speak the shield’s command word again, it reverts back to its original form and is no longer Animated.
Command: Move (Bonus Action - At Will). While Animated, you can command the shield to walk up to 30 ft.
Stand Guard. While Animated, 5ft. Adjacent creatures of your choice can benefit from Half Cover.
Tripping Vines. While Animated, the shield creates Difficult Terrain in a 10 ft. emanation. Creatures of your choice can still move through this area as if it were normal terrain.
