Aftershock - A Week of Masks 5-9

Mask05
Working Title:
Ember Bloom
Description: A blaze of colour wrapped in curls and coils, erupting in florals. This mask doesn't hide -- it announces.
Verse:
"I curled in on myself
until the spark caught.
Now I burn
in velvet bloom."

Mask06
Working Title: Emergence
Description: Soft and otherworldly, this mask feels like the first breath after a long winter. Mink fuxx cradles delicate yellow butterflies, shimmering with sequins -- life has returned, slowly and tenderly.
Verse:
"I was note gone
just resting,
beneath the frost,
Waiting to bloom
when it was safe again."

Mask07
Working Title:
Sugar & Scar Tissue
Description: Soft ribbons and translucent petals attempt to soften the edges of something more painful underneath. Candy-striped stitches recall both celebration and constraint -- joy entangled with discomfort. It's a face that smiles out of duty, not delight.
Verse:
"I dressed the wound in ribbons,
pinned flowers to my grief.
Maybe if I looked sweet enough,
I could pass for healed."

Mask08
Working Title: Grief in White Lace
Description: Adorned with pearls and flowers, this mask cloaks pain in ceremonial beauty. It feels bridal, funeral, or both -- suggesting rituals of loss, longing, and unfulfilled rites. Beneath the embellishment is a tired face trying to hold grace.
Verse:
"I stitched my sorrow into satin,
threaded pearls through ache,
Grief wore white that morning --
no one noticed the mistake."

Mask09
Working Title:
The Performer
Description: Wrapped in brilliant blue feathers and regal adornments, this mask holds a hardened expression beneath the spectacle. It calls forth drag, wrestling, ceremonial armor -- loudly queer and undeniably bold, yet behind the sparkle lies exhaustion. The burden of performance is thick in the brow.
Verse:
"I danced in sequins and fury,
the stage lights burned through bone.
Laughter echoed louder than sorrow --
but only when I was alone."

Comments

I'm going to photograph them all with a narrative and make a book/magazine. I already have the design of a gallery show - I would like to send out PR kits to see if I can get a show.

You should do a show with these masks. They look great.
