Weekly Journal (September 29th)

Happy Monday y'all! I hope you're doing well. Got some updates for you:

-Oh man, you just don't know the relief I have at how this video performed lol. It's not on fire or anything like that, but it's behaving "normally" which is spectacular. All I wanted was for it to not be as bad analytically as the last one and it's leaps and bounds better. Plus, once YT completes the A/B testing, I think views will go up a little more as well.

-Thank you all so much for the love on this one! It was refreshing to do something short, sweet, fun, and interesting. And I can't thank you all enough for watching as always and for all of the support.

-There are a handful of bloopers on this one, but not enough for a whole blooper reel, so I'll lump these bloopers in with next month's video for a proper one!

-We are in crunch time for the backlog because there are roughly EIGHT weeks until that video goes live. I've got to knock out Obra Dinn and Metal Gear Solid this week, and then it's onto Kingdom Hearts (fuck y'all lol). Meanwhile, going to try and finish Silksong in there somewhere and maybe sneak in Silent Hill f on Halloween. Send thought and prayers. And pity.

-Look forward to a pretty "psych of play" feely video in October, this one has a FASCINATING study on gaming that I'm excited to get everyone's thoughts on. Look for that video on October 25th.

-And lastly, I'm still chugging away on Silksong each week on twitch! Live on Thursdays at 4PM cst, I hope to see you there!

Have a fantastic week y'all. Remember, peace is not control. When the outcomes entirely determine your happiness, you are at mercy to circumstances. It's mind over matter: if you don't mind, it don't matter.

Hopefully the analytics keep up, and I’m always excited for more psych of play! Don’t forget to take a break from your backlog and videos though every now and then:)

The bit with your dog is adorable. And yet, I have a counter example to that bit. You say that it’s not as satisfying when you’re suddenly thrown into a boss fight out of nowhere, but the first dragons dogma game I think has a great example of it. The game has huge sprawling areas that are really easy to get lost in. There’s a day night cycle as well, so it gives you this feel that you’re going on a really long journey from the capital out into unexplored, dangerous lands. If you go really far out from the capital, so far out that it would become the middle of the night by the time you get there, you’ll come to some thick woods with tall trees. Your party will have and to hold torches to see. It’s at the point where you’re kind of wondering if you should keep going to see if you can find more loot, but your supplies are low and your health isn’t looking great. You should probably start to head back. But then a huge silhouette moves in the distance. It pounds towards you, way too fast for you to dash out of there. Suddenly, a huge fanfare of music kicks up, a massive boss health bar appears, with more bars on its health than you’ve seen for the entire game up to this point. The name of the boss appears over the bar. It’s the name of the final boss of the game. The name of the titular dragon that ripped out your heart in the first cut scene. There was no buildup. There was no cut scene saying that the dragon would be here. No nothing. The dragon is just here now. And he’s angry. And he’s powerful. And if you don’t get the hell out of there, he’s going to be the end of your adventure. I replayed the game about eight years later. I still remembered encountering the dragon under those conditions. And I purposefully ran to the woods because I wanted to meet him again. I knew I had no chance of beating him. And even though there was no real buildup of or aura, I just wanted to reexperience that one second of “holy shit there’s a mother flipping dragon here And he’s going to kill me “.
