Patron Creation - Brainstorming!

I wanted to get everyone's thoughts about the Preserving skill I mentioned in a previous post.
This is an open discussion to share your thoughts on what you'd like to see with this skill. This will include all my curing, drying, and aging recipes outside of Nectar. Some things to think about:
- Progression - how would you like this skill to play out?
- Bonuses - what kinds of bonuses do you want to see either in-game or with sims when your sim has this skill?
- Reward Traits - ideas on a reward trait for this skill?
- Special interactions - are there any special, skill-based interactions you'd like to see?
- Puns and buffs - do you want to see a specific buff or have a pun you want me to wrap into this skill?
Those are just a few things but feel free to leave any ideas/comments/suggestions below!

I love the idea of curing meats and fish. Making ham/jamon/bacons, of different types. Cured salmon or trout. Aging would also be great for hams. Also for aging, being able to make cheeses of different types, and then age them, would be awesome. We already can make cheese in cottage living, but being able to have a variety is always nice. Dried fish is also common in many cultures, and would be a natural addition to the set.

2023-06-07 15:41:22 +0000 UTCI second the non-dairy cheeses! But also: As for progression, since some things take so long to make (vinegar for example) I would hope that the ones that take the longest would be able to be started at low skill levels. But what about simple things being unlocked first, then more complex things later? For example, Green or White tea could be level 1, but Rose Congou and Earl Grey would be level 5. (Love that Rose Congou by the way. It's so cute!) Also, not complaining about how long things take to perverse because I like the challenge, but what about a light speed boost as a bonus for high skill? That way we still get to enjoy the grind, but also get lots of goodies when we've earned it. That or a speed boost could make a nice reward trait. All I can think of for buffs is a "feeling prepared" or "self-sufficient" kind of thing, and for interactions I keep giggling about the idea of "Offer a pickle" being an interaction option. It just sounds so silly in my head!

2023-06-03 19:43:24 +0000 UTCI’d love to be able to make different kinds of kimchi and maybe some Japanese pickles. It would be super fun if pickled garlic gave your sim some kind of buff against vampires temporarily.

2023-06-01 23:06:28 +0000 UTCI absolutely love it so far. I think it'd be cool to make plant-based "cheeses" out of almond milk, cow plant milk, etc. for lactose-intolerant sims. I also wonder if you'd ever consider a wine/ale or brewing skill?
