Devlog (Dec 1, 2024)

Hi, here's what I did since the last devlog:
First, I wrote some assorted scenes, including:
[Seri] MC thinks about Seri while his life is flashing before his eyes
[Paila] Help Paila work in the clothing shop
[Paila] 2nd sex scene
[Pila] Pila catches you and Paila in the act
[Miran] Chii introduces Miran to you
[Miran] Miran gives you a dagger if you didn't bring a weapon to the dungeon
[Miran] First sleepover scene
[Miran] Handholding scene
[Viola] Partner stretching scene
[Viola] Massage scene
[Viola] Handjob scene
Second, I did some thinking about how to "herd" the increasing amount of events. The main decision I made was to make the stories less linear. In the current version, a heroine's route requires seeing some scenes in a strict order (e.g. in Viola's case, it's intro scene -> camp scene -> hot springs scene -> kino/earnest scene -> sex scene). But I think in the future, a heroine's route will require seeing scenes in a less-strict order (e.g. in Viola's case, perhaps it's intro scene -> ~4 of X romantic/sexual buildup scenes in any order -> first sex scene -> more romantic/sexual build up scenes and sex scenes in any order). (For this reason, I decided to migrate the hot springs scene and the kino/earnest scene back out of quests and back into quest-agnostic encounters. I also made those scenes optional.)
The main benefits of this are:
IMO this structure makes it easier to add/update/remove scenes over time with feedback because the individual scenes will be less dependent on each other. In other words if the scenes are more dependent on each other, if I change one I have to change the others that depend on it (messy!)
More freedom. In the current version, you have to leave Miran behind to see Viola's hot springs scene (IMO this is not intuitive). In future versions, Viola's hot springs scene will be optional and you will be able to get closer to Viola in other ways. (And I could write a Viola + Miran hot springs scene too.)
More replay value (if I can write a lot of scenes). Perhaps in far-off future versions you'll be able to see different scenes in different playthroughs, depending on your choices (and perhaps even random number generation). The game having high replay value is very important to me!
