Grrl Power #1323 - Plans within plans

Thank you for the support! You guys are awesome!

Sciona is poor at feigning ignorance, (or non-superiority) so imagine her first few lines coming across a little bored sounding, like she's just reading lines with her college roommate who is suuuuper into her drama classes, and Sciona just... can't. But not so much so that she's immediately suspicious sounding. Ellie was kind of distracted penciling in runes, so Sciona got away with it. If she keeps drooling over those spell sigil blueprints, she might finally trigger Ellie's situational awareness.

Sciona is there as... actually I never came up with her cover name. Sangre Mago? No, that's just "blood mage" in Spanish. She's not that stupid. Valeria? No, sorry to anyone out there named Valeria, but that's straight up a bad guy's name. I think the first time I ever heard it, it was attached to some cartoon henchwoman. I can't remember what cartoon. It was some sort of G.I. Joe-level cartoon as I recall. Also it sounds too much like venereal. She wouldn't use Escorpia's name either. You can believe that any foreign supers involved in crime are tracked if there's any evidence of their activity. Actually foreign supers not involved in crime are kept tabs on as well. Officially, this isn't acknowledged, and the practice is defended with academic reasons, like "We want to know what all possible superpowers are so we can extrapolate future possibilities and also it'd be nice to know if someone has the ability specifically to teleport people out of a caved-in mine or see anything happening within twenty feet of a bowl of borscht." But obviously the intelligence agencies want to know if anyone has borscht-voyance and make adjustments to the cafeteria offerings the Joint Chiefs have access to.

Georgina Constanza? No, wait... Isabella Mary Elizabeth Jesusina Concepcion Ferreira Marroquín. No one calls her Iza. Six Times Guy might, might earn use of her full first name at some point. If she hooks back up with Deus at some point... Well, he would call her Sciona. He might actually call her Sci-Sci (pronounced Cici) if he wants to get stabbed.

Anyway, Sciona/Isabella is ostensibly there to audit budget... stuff for the Senator's office. Basically just getting an update on the exciting new secret project. It's probably being written into the budget as one of those underground neutron studying bunkers. Which honestly would probably be a pretty hard sell these days. Oh, I know, an underground apocalypse seed bunker.

Oof, and hers probably won't be well defended and something will inevitably go wrong lol

Reigys

Dungeon SG-1

tsukiouji

Valeria is also the name of Reed and Sue Richard's super-intelligent daughter.

Timothy Mayfield

For a brief moment I was thinking Sciona was planning to hijack the construction to have the dungeon built to suit her needs and was thinking of how hard it would be to not get caught, but then I realized she is probably trying to steal the design so she could make her own modified one in a hidden location.

Jared Kolbly

The whole point of a false identity is to keep it mundane. It's most likely just one of the following: Ana, Claudia, Maria, or Rosa.

IvyReed

Sofia Clara Isabel Ophelia Natetiva y Aranca, or Sciona ;)

Richard du Maine

i’d go with the pretentious irony alias. Something that would invoke an ancient goddess of light and goodness. Like me naming my necromancer “Sunny” or “child of life” in Icelandic. I feel like Sciona would have that kind of humor.

IHazNoFace

Sciona is there representing the bureaucracy of DC. She is legal. Until she gets caught. After all, that's DC tradition.

eddi_TBH

I've never actually seen all of the film, but enough to see why it's nicknamed City of a Thousand Disappointments.

Torsten K

Conan: To crush the enemy, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women! Sciona: It's funny because it's true

gaijin 99

I feel you on that. I'd like to say it's because I got old, but naah I've always had an awful memory.

gaijin 99

3 and 4 look vaguely like alchemical symbols, but when I looked them up there were no matches, but maybe a system of symbols that takes inspiration from alchemy? 3 also appears to be stylistically similar to Linear A, although is not from that, but perhaps a conlang that took inspiration? I spent some time going through various alphabets and scripts on Omniglot, but I couldn't find a match for either of them. I will say that 3 seems extremely familiar to me but I can't quite place exactly where I've seen it, it's probably going to be something I'm very familiar with and I'll feel stupid when somebody points it out

Jacob Bissey

If 1 is the Half-Life logo, I feel like I should recognize 2 and 3, but don't. And yes, the last one is from Elder Scrolls. If anything, I'm a little bummed that the triangle at position zero isn't more Stargate-y. They're not the English alphabet swap characters from Elder Scrolls, Zelda, final fantasy, or metroid. They don't look like Tolkein elvish.

Person

Ah, it looked so precisely I was sure you had a bigger version. :-)

Thomas Dorner

I think I have a higher res version of the layout, but I penciled in all the runes on the small version on this page, so they're like 5px high each.

Dave Barrack

I thought He-Man, but apparently not.

Mark Magagna

I really wish I could remember the cartoon that introduced me to the name. At this point in my life though, I wouldn't be surprised if I did figure out which cartoon it was only to learn that her name was actually Veneria, or... Gonnorhia. I really shouldn't trust my memory.

Dave Barrack

She's just marking down where the plates will go, not designing the sigil. She was part of that effort earlier, along with Gault and Dabbler and several others.

Dave Barrack

Oof, that movie could have been better. That must have been rough to watch.

Dave Barrack

I can't think of any villanous Valeria's tbh? Plenty of heroic ones though.

Leo Once3333

Valeria is a villains name? I cannot see that since Space Agent Valerian was a part of my comics reading growing up, and a big reason for my liking of science fiction in general.

Torsten K

Sciona inwardly: https://youtu.be/oqwzuiSy9y0?si=HCaKNfjdFuOjEQsT

Terence Bryant-White

So... the lonely nerd putting together the possibly world-destroying dungeon has no oversight?

Town Crier

In addition to Conan's Valeria, I'd point out that the love interest in "Dragonslayer" was named Valerian/Valeria (if you've seen the movie you understand the distinction).

Alysandir

There's a lambda in the runes. Not just any lambda, it's the Half Life logo. Aperture Science is a company in the Half Life universe.

Killianti

Valeria was the name of the heroine from the first Conan movie who literally manifested after death to save Conan from being killed due to the power of love. I'm just not seeing villain there personally.

gaijin 99

@Wyrmhand, the final rune on the right is the Oblivion sigil from the Elder Scrolls games, and the one on the far left is the lambda from the Half Life series. I feel like I should recognize the others, but I don't.

gaijin 99

If she went with Valeria, she could claim her parents named her after Sandahl Bergman's character in Conan the Barbarian. I could actually see troll-body Sciona catching it in one of her rare moments of down time. She passes a room where some henchmen are playing it and catches the scene at the beginning where Conan's mom loses her head, thinks it's a comedy and sits down to watch. (When it's over, she decides she was right about it being a comedy.)

Czarzhan

i would guess Stargate

Philip Brown

As you put so much work into that plan, do you want to share a larger version of it for us? (Please! ;-)

Thomas Dorner

Please spill ?:-!

Wyrmhand

Nice Easter Egg hidden in the runes. Now if only it were the right Aperture for science.

Terra_Lupis

> Valeria is a villain's name Valeria Richards might object to this generalisation! I mean, SURE, Doom is her godfather, but...

CSquared

Some call her... Tim?
