The OVA has not that much trauma, its more focused on Uenoyama and Mafuyu, they are so sweet

2024-11-27 21:11:24 +0000 UTCAt the end of the day, it's not our decision or feelings about any of the characters that matter. How they feel about each other and choose to forgive or believe in each other is up to them. They have the right to make those choices based on individual interactions, history, intuition, experience, and desires. Haruki's innate goodness and compassion inspired Akihiko to change and finally say goodbye to Ugetsu. And Akihiko does make those changes, not in a superficial, just-for-appearances way. If Haruki believes in him, then how can we say it's wrong? People should always be given (title drop) the grace to learn and grow from their mistakes. Otherwise, what would be the point of changing/improving/serving time at all? The most important factor in many abusive relationships is that one person has no viable alternative (or they don't think they do). Akihiko has no money to get his own place, not when he's also paying his tuition and band supplies. Ugetsu legitimately tried to end it, but couldn't bring himself to kick Akihiko out onto the street. So they were stuck, but Ugetsu kept trying to drive Akihiko away (even though part of him didn't want Akihiko to leave). The main problem with those two was their history and real love for each other. If Akihiko had been able to move out and get over it, they would have been fine after some time. But he didn't leave and neither of them could move on. When Akihiko moves in with Haruki, things are very different because they start with a friendship that slowly deepens into more based on respect and shared interests, not just lust or a crush. Haruki refuses to be a victim. Ugetsu is being cruel to be kind but is torn between love for Akihiko and his passion for the violin. Akihiko has fallen into patterns of self-destructive behavior, and knows he's a mess, but doesn't see a way out. Adults are a lot more complicated, so it makes sense that their relationships would be much messier than some high schoolers who had those adults to help them. Mafuyu wanted to write a love song, but he ended up writing a song for Ugetsu and Akihiko (and himself), about letting go, moving on, finding hope in a future full of possibilities. Saying goodbye doesn't mean forgetting, only that you can't live in memories.

Akihiko felt he could stay at his place in exchange for sex, so when he got to Haruki's place the old patterns came over, and he thought that having sex with him would work out because that was how his relationship with Ugestu worked. It doesn't excuse it though it explains why they made that choice.
