2024-04-03 00:44:57 +0000 UTCi'm impressed by how much you were already able to decipher of the dynamics between the characters and their current situation within their realm, because as someone who watched the animation first before reading the books, i was fairly lost/missed a lot of details, and definitely did not connect things that in retrospect seem pretty obvious. Even now, despite appreciating the donghua/series for what it is, I'm still frustrated by how i find that it does not do the books justice, given the censorship laws in china which does limit the execution of the story quite a bit. Other than being impressed, I've always admired your perceptiveness too, I feel like we're a lot alike in terms of how we think, and yet you always surprise me, and I often like your takes (wish we could debate haha), so I find your reactions very invigorating to watch!

Just a little background knowledge, the gods in this show are all chosen by the heavens to ascend, and those chosen to ascend are usually very heroic important people (like the prince protagonist whose name is Xie Lian). The requirements to ascend consist of ability, hard work, and luck. Ability links to their ability to cultivate. Cultivation comes from a Taoist concept by which beings can extend their lifespan and gain supernatural powers (this includes humans and demons) and the overall reason for cultivation is to obtain either godhood and or immortality. If you end up continuing the show and finishing it, I recommend reading the novel the show is based on as it gives a lot more details there! ๐

Mo Dao Zu Shi has a complete animated adaptation, there are 3 seasons and 35 episodes total. It's very good too! I've recently updated the eng subs for all the episodes on my laptop because the ones available online are quite chaotic ๐๐

They 'cultivate' their spiritual core until they become gods/immortal. Basically they need worshippers to get credits. She got surprised 'cause lady's overworked and no one ever thanks her, you can see all the scrolls in the background she's basically the administration backbone of Heavens xD 27:20 the singing voice was telling the bride not to smile, so he warns the guys that he's been smiling the whole time -to attract the ghost. There's the second season that's out too, it starts to explore the past of MC. The only issue for me w season 2 is that they had a problem mid way through releasing it and the quality decreased after that. The manhua for this series is absolutely beautiful if you'd like to check it out too, it's further along than the anime. The best is the novel though, the OG, it answers all the questions and is the most gay xD (it's been released in English divided in 8 novels)
