My first painting commission 🖤

As you might have noticed, over the past year and a half, I’ve developed a deep love for painting with acrylic on canvas. Up until now, most of my work has been retro-futuristic or cyberpunk latex self-portraits but I was recently trusted with my first canvas commission and boy was it a fun challenge!

Everything about this piece was new: the theme, style, color palette, the contrast, techniques…

The painting features Thoth and Athena, along with their symbolic "mascots" often associated with them in mythology. Maybe not exactly a theme you would associate with me but that’s actually quite the opposite!

In case you didn’t know, my parents are historians, so I grew up joining archaeological digs and being dragged (happily!) to every museum and church their car could reach. I was (and still am) obsessed with Greek and Egyptian mythology. I used to spend my school recesses in the library reading mythology books, learning hieroglyphics and (more recently) my first two tattoos were inspired by my favorite Greek myth.

This commission brought me so much joy 🖤 It pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way.

I absolutely loved the challenge and I’m incredibly happy with how the painting turned out. It reminded me why I love art in the first place: the chance to explore new ideas, tell stories and connect with you 🖤
