Video Reference Update #1

As many of you probably know, video references were one of the stretch goals that we hit right at the end of the TrueRef Kickstarter. While I want to serve the animation community eventually, I want to approach our first batch a little differently.

Our plan is to shoot 15 to 30-second clips of both subtle and dynamic movements that an illustrator can then scrub through and grab the extract point of movement they want. We'll shoot both straight-on and our typical bottom-up angles that we love.

The videos will be shot at 4K 120 FPS and in slow motion, though we'll likely provide non-slowed-down versions as well.

The good news:

We'll be doing our first test shoot for our video references in early September! Our first test shoot will be with Alaina, who I know people love, and I get why! She's an absolute gem.

The even better news:

As subscribers, you'll be getting exclusive access to the tests!

I'm really excited about the video references. If you have any thoughts on what we could do to potentially make them even better let me know!

I'm sorry but I only just saw this! A hand pack is planned! Both thicker and slender hands.

Also not sure how useful this would be, but I think something with a hand rotation would probably be a really useful reference. Even just as simple as a neutral hand pose in a 360 degree shot would be really useful for me, at least :)

This is a great idea! I already know Alaina can make great facial expressions, too. I wrote this down; we'll do a few on our first test shoot!

Just a thought, as not sure how useful it might be to others. But, I've had trouble finding this for years - Maybe short videos of expressions going through all the phases from neutral to exaggerated? And from one type of expression to another? (e.g. Neutral to mild shock to complete surprise for the former, happiness to fear for the latter) Even dedicated expressions packs tend toward a sort of "medium" expression, with some few on the "extreme" end (like with anger), but that misses all the subtlety in-between (and I feel that those gaps are where most people actually live).
