Office Hi-Jinx

So the new computer and monitor are working fine, which is great, and I'm very grateful. For the first time in years my computer isn't crashing and freezing up every few hours (or more), and the screen isn't blurry. This will obviously help me a lot in getting things done from scripting to posting here. The only "problem" is that my printer and scanner are too old to work with the set up. The printer is a complete no-go and the scanner is recognized but all fouled up because it's an old 2-in-1 Epson scanner/printer and the printer being broken (we never used it as a printer) goofs up something that Sarah tried to explain to me but I frankly didn't understand. So, I can't print or scan anything so I'm going to have to replace a lot more stuff. My parents are helping out so I'm not complaining but I kind of need to print and scan stuff right now for work.

I'm also finally getting a new web cam. This should help out with online meetings and podcast stuff because I am always the blurry guy during those. Winky makes fun of how we look on the monitor. I had an interesting web meeting yesterday, actually, which maybe one day I can tell you about (another "maybe" thing in the discussion stage, there's now five ongoing, but I think I've been ghosted on one of them which is always fun). Winky likes to climb on me when I'm on a meeting or doing a podcast, and yesterday was no different. She was bonking her head into my face while I was trying to talk. I tell everyone she's my agent.

Anyway, office hi-jinx will be ongoing for a few days. But of a good kind.

Yeah, my printer is still working but just incompatible now. The scanner's issues are due to the printer part of it being inoperative, it's beyond me what's going on there but I have to have to a working scanner. I'm already seeing a difference just in not having constant freeze-ups, etc. You forget how good something can work when you've worn your old item to shreads, clothing or computer or rapidograph. Like most folks I use something until it absolutely won't work.

We get a new computer every 8 - 10 years and every time I've had to replace a printer and other accessories because the new operating system won't talk to the still-perfectly-working old device. Thankfully for the most recent computer the printer still sort-of works but the scanner doesn't but I'm refusing to replace it until absolutely necessary. Hopefully your new equipment when it's all in place will make the rest of your work-with-tech life go more smoothly.

Guess it's oddly appropriate that you're undergoing all this reconstruction of your workflow at the end of the year. Here's hoping that's all you need to figure out so you and the family can get that well-deserved 2025 rest.
