The signing at Four Color Fantasies in Winchester, VA went wonderfully. I ended up signing and sketching for over 10 hours without a break, attendance was way higher than I expected and it was great meeting everyone. My thanks to everyone at Four Color and all those who showed up. Some folks even drove all the way from Texas! I haven't done an out of town signing in at least fifteen years, probably longer, and it was a terriffic experience. The only downside was that I was wiped out afterward, ha ha. My hand is a mess, my back and shoulders are in serious pain. I'm eating meds like candy and I've spent most of the past two days asleep or wishing I was asleep. They say age is only a number but someone needs to tell people's anatomy about the concept. I feel like I played tackle football after a Fishbone show and all I did was drive and sit, sign and sketch. I'm looking forward to doing it again, we're already talking about my going back. Next time I'll try to remember to take more pictures of the event.
I made a 6-minute "thank you" video for Instagram but I couldn't get the damned file over to my computer for this post so here's a link to it, instead: https://www.instagram.com/p/DQVAqhvjuZ9/
My next appearance will be at my local stomping grounds, I'll be at JHU Comics on Staten Island on November 19th for the release of CATACOMB OF TORMENT #5 from Oni/EC. This issue will feature the eight-page story "Necronomicomicon", the second collaboration I've done with artist Lukas Ketner. I just did a run through the lettering and it's all ready to go to print. And I'm happy to say that Lukas and I will be working together again on a third EC story called "Death Groove". I've got to get that one written by mid-November, I don't know which title or issue it's planned for yet.
I was happy to hear from a number of folks at the signing in Virginia that they'd already pre-ordered a copy of Nerd Inferno, some through their local comic shops. Comic shop preorders haven't kicked in yet, but some folks are arranging them ahead of time, anyway. I believe comic shop preorders will start sometime in December. It's a ways off, but fyi I'll be doing a signing on April 21st at JHU Comics for the release of NERD INFERNO and am talking to another NYC shop about doing a signing the following week.
I've been asked about doing a convention late next year. I've agreed to go but nothing is confirmed. There's a lot of steps that have to be taken between then and now. I've also agreed to do a small local con early next year. More on that if and when I know more.
I guess I can say that I've officially been ghosted by the GalaxyCon organization. We were asked about being guests at any one of their shows and I asked about doing the Columbus, Ohio show in December. That was months ago, and the last I ever heard from them. Whomp whomp.
FYI, if you want to see me show up at a convention or shop near you, feel free to ask the promoters or shop owners. I'm willing to travel if my schedule allows and if someone's willing to cover the expense. I'd be happy to do some more appearances to promote the Nerd Inferno omnibus next year if it's at all possible. I'll probably need a hip replacement by the year's end.
Tomorrow night I'll be doing a Zoom discussion with my friends Stephen DeStephano and Robbie Busch, for Stephen's Patreon. I'm not sure if we'll be talking horror comics, Instant Piano, old comic book career combat stories, Stephen's storyboards for Welcome to Eltingville, or a mix of any and all. I'm sure it'll be fun. I'll let folks know when our talk is posted.
Thursday night Paul Yellovich and I bring the Tear Them Apart Podcast back from the dead for a livecast on Youtube, with our return guest Scott Dorward. We will definitely be talking horror movies and as usual for the hangouts, we'll be taking your questions and comments. Hope to have some of you hang ut with us. Things kick off at 8 pm EST. Link to the YT is: https://www.youtube.com/live/asAUdh_Ghnk?si=qTfMSWlQKlz-a-EU
My voice is already shot from the weekend so it'll be interesting to see/hear where it goes by Thursday night. I should pick up some beer and just go full silly old man.
There's been some movement in two of the "probably not going to actually happen" projects that I can't talk about in any detail. One is actual forward moveemnt, the other is more administrative movement. Which will complete the race to oblivion first? One day I'll be able to let you know.
The design work for Nerd Inferno is just about finished. Basically just the spine, back cover and indicia pages. All the previous design elements from the three books being collected and all the extras will be included in the new Omnibus.
Thanks again to everyone who showed up in Winchester. Nice meeting a bunch of you folks who are backing the Patreon, as well, double thanks for being there, and here.
Speaking of the Patreon -- slowly working on a few new Fun Strips to post here (alreadys crewed one up!), gonna get back to scanning and posting the Eltingville storyboards, will be selling a small first batch of signed/sketched Beasts of Burden Omnibus copies, and am prepping the "Dark Knight segment for the World's Funnest retrospective.
More, later. Soon.

Pete cosplayer at the Four Color Fantasies signing.

First time I was ever asked to sign a skull.

Tired old man about to leave for home from Winchester, Va. (Old man is still tired, btw)
