Catacomb of Torment #5: Necronomicomicon
Added 2025-08-14 22:04:11 +0000 UTCLo and behold, soon after posting about my second script for the EC revival series from Oni Press, the solicitation material gets posted online. yay and huzzah. So, it's all official-like, the story -- "Necronomicomicon" will be in CATACOMB OF TORMENT #5, scheduled for November 19th. And it looks like it got the cover story slot, with an illustration by Mark Buckingham. In the EC tradition, the cover doesn't exactly match up with the story, which is not a problem, in fact I'm very pleased they liked the story enough to base the cover illustration on it. I got a nice note from editorial that the story went over well in the office.
Art is by Lukas Ketner, who also illustrated "Red Blend", which will be in Catacomb of Torment #2, out next week in comic shops that care.
I'm not including any links to the solicitation info that has appeared on some comics sites because -- uh, oh -- there's some mistakes in the solicitation copy that Oni is addressing. The wrong credits went out fro CoT #5. But the Patricia Martin variant cover below has the correct credits (happy to be in an issue with Paul Tobin, a good guy and good writer).

I'm very excited to have another story on the schedule. Still have my fingers crossed that my latest pitch gets accepted, I really want to write it. If it doesn't pass then I'll hold onto it in case I ever write my own horror anthology. Or another anthology opportunity comes up that includes a page rate.

Thanks. I doubt it'll ever fly but I wanted to do a 12-issue series where I wrote a self-contained horror story for each month which different artists would illustrate. But the way things have been going I can't even get back on Beasts of Burden for four new issues, so, 12 seems nuts even if a publisher went for it. Hopefully a clearing of the decks is still in the cards soon and I can get on top of some extended writing projects. The Necronomicomicon story would have been part of the series, it's an old plot from my notebooks. I pitched a condensed version to Oni and it made it through the process. Just wanted to get some stories written and out there.
